th350 dipstick tube leak?

what would cause a trans pan dipstick tube to leak? I was under the impression that their really wasnt much going on in a trans pan. Could it just be a little overfilled?
 
do you have the grommet in good.if its a chrome dipstick tube with the o ring ure screwed.lol but if it is just add a lil silicone 2 it.and make sure its not the kickdown cable

it is a chrome dipstick. its probably the one youre talking about. any idea on where to get a different style one to replace it? it seems to be leaking a pretty substantial amount. like ill get a 1 foot diameter puddle overnight. i was thinking it was the cooler lines above it, but it doesnt look like theyre leaking
 
is it a o-ring style dipstick ? If so check the o-ring area of the stick for cracks. Very common. I have also seen the kickdown cable housings leak and it looks like the fill tube is leaking.
 
Located right above the dipstick tube it has a small bolt that holds it down it also has a grommet 2 seal that up u can stick a cable in it with ut hookin it up just 2 seal the leak.mine is cut off at around six inches and I sealed it with red rtv.
 
oh yeah, ive got the kickdown cable there. its just an rtv'd tube sticking out of the trans on mine

It should fit. I cannot see from the pic, Chevy engine or ford? (looks like a ls1) if its a ford, are you using a mid plate/adaptor plate or is the bell housing cut off and sfi one installed?
