testing a converter stall??

Is there a shop that can test a stall in a converter??

No.
Stall speed of a converter will vary with horsepower torque and weight.
That said, a experienced converter rebuilder can come up with a reasonable expectation of stall speed, assuming they know all of the components installed. For some converter rebuilders, if the information you give them regarding torque and hp is accurate, they can construct a converter for you that stalls within 100 rpm, or less.
Stator, fin angle, distance between the turbine and impeller all have a impact on stall speed.
The same "core", used for making the torque converter can easily vary the stall speed as little as 100-200 rpm and some converters 1000-2000 rpm depending on the components used inside.
Some OE manufactures use a formula that measures stall speed called K factor.
The short answer is no, however some one experenced can give you "ranges" of stall speed if they are familuer with the orginial "core" used to construct it and accuerate information of the vehicle you plan on installing it into.
Hope that helps you.

The only way to really know if it's not in the car

is to cut it and inspect it. Rich is right, too many variables to acurately determine just by looking at it. Does it have a part number stamped into it?Do you know who made it?

stall

I know how to test it in a ca guys...it's on the ground.

I have 3 converters. (2) are dynamic 8 & 9"... they look sort of different

the (2) 9" - Dynamic and unknown have the same p/s 3 - bal stamped on them. The back of the converters are a little different. I wonder if Mike or some experienced individual could tell who's it is...?

So nobody has a machine to test it??? They should have a dyno that has adjustable hp & tq simulation.... I'll build one tonight..........ya..

Anybody have a preference for converter that is efficient and not too expensive? How about that Stallion?

Why get an off the shelf one when Mike can make you your very own :)
I dont like to say cheaper b/c they are build of the same pieces...you are just getting it local:)

Dynamic converters LLC or Dynamic TCT? I have a good relation with Dynamic converters LLC. I can come over and take a look on my way home, just give me a call at 586-255-3426 and let me know what time works for you. I'll be passing the Warren area about 5:30/6 .
