TAYLOR — No charges will be filed against a resident who fatally wounded another man during a road rage incident, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Offices.
Edward Myers, 46, shot Henry Raymond Enoch, 42, after being assaulted by the Brownstown Township man Aug. 29 at the intersection of North Line and Telegraph roads.
Enoch disregarded a “do not cross” sign and ran into Myers’ Ford Ranger before charging and attacking the motorist. Enoch died during surgery.
The Police Department received word from the county Thursday morning that the shooting was in self-defense, Cmdr. Mary Sclabassi said.
Myers’ attorney, Jim Makowski, said his client is relieved.
“He is happy and looking to move on with his life,” Makowski said. “They called it a justifiable shooting. I am grateful that justice was served.” At about 7 p.m. Aug. 29, Enoch was on a bicycle and disregarded a “do not cross” signal. He crashed into the Ford Ranger driven by Myers, denting the left door.
Enoch then got up and attacked Myers, according to witnesses. He hit Myers several times in the head through the truck’s side window, which was down.
Myers, a retired Marine who was legally carrying a pistol, pulled it out and fired once at Enoch, striking him in the chest.
Myers, who was arrested at the scene by police, was released a day later.
Makowski said Myers originally tried to flee, but his truck was in park after the crash.
Research into Enoch’s past turned up a criminal history including one violent assault. He was identified by fingerprints Taylor police already had on file.
No toxicology results on Enoch were released to Makowski, the attorney said.
“It has put tremendous stress on Mr. Myers,” Makowski said. “He was looking only to protect himself.”
