Tach Wiring Question

I am having trouble getting the VDO Tach in my 48 Chev working. It was working up until a few weeks ago but now has gone out. I have a MSD Billit Distributor and a 6AL Box as well as adjustanble timing control. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction in terms of things to check because I have tried everything I can think of to no avail. Such as checking the wiring, grounds, etc. thanks in advance

Alrighty, firts check to see if you have power and a good ground at the gauage. Next, check the wire that plugs into the side of the MSD 6AL box (it will be a wire with a female spade terminal, normally it's a white wire but people use whatever is laying around usually). Actually there's not much else to the tach wiring. Power, ground, signal.

ok...that is what one of my buddies told me to check...i have never heard that before but it was worth a shot in the dark...

off the back of the tach usually a red wire indicates 12v B+ power, Black is ground, Green is signal(from your MSD box or distributor sometimes), and white for the back light. Check your connections at the back of your gauge and at the points in which the connect on the other ends, if all is good, then your tach crapped out!

orrr..............

I've seen a handfull of boxes have problems with that tach output not working, if the power and grouns corect adn it actually has power.. this you can tell when u key it up it should flash up and then zero out. Then try hookign the green wire from the tach (signal wire) directly to the negative wire on the coil and see if it works that way
