Switching to Comcrap from Wow - Need Modem and Router Info

I am Switching to Comcrap from Wow and Need Modem and Router Info. I do this every two years to keep getting New subscriber deals...

I saw in an older thread that you should not use a combined Modem/Router and I understand that...

My question is which ones are the best bang for the buck? Over the two year subscription period, rental would be about $350 and I'd like to spend less than that for both.
Now, I know absolutely ZERO about any of this stuff. My phones are terrible in the house, even when close to the WiFi and I'd like to fix that.

I need to know EXACTLY what I'd need to hook everything up. I want to have everything in my hands when Comcast shows up to do the install. You need to explain it to me like I am your 10 Y/O kid...Wait, they would know how to do this...Explain it to me like I am your 70 Y/O grandfather who doesn't have a cell phone :)

I have a 2,000 SQ FT long Ranch Home....

TIA....grr

Here is what is compatible with Comcast........

No clue if comcrap changed their plan structure, but I ended up having to use their modem/ router thinga a majobber thing. Only way to get "unlimited" data at the time was to use their equipment. Otherwise it was set amount of data and so much per 10gb after that or something. Between hulu/ netflix etc we went over the alloted amount.

Thing that annoyed me the most. My 10 year old printer that has been actually flawless isn't wirelessly compatible.

I went to Best Buy to buy a Wi-Fi router but the sales guy there says that none of their routers will work with comcrap.. so you're kind of stuck with leasing their's
Whether that's true or not I have no clue

I put this link on my original question..This is what Comcast says is compatible with their service...

Here is what I use per month...So, I really don't use much....Only 2 at home...

what speed did they sell you? that modem above is for 300 meg service. If you can, and your not streaming 4k movies or playing Fortnite, 200-300 meg service should be fine for you. my folks have 2 roku tv's and a laptop for my dad to surf and play video slots. Those 2 devices i mentioned work fine and i never have to touch a thing.

For the Cable Modem, the two big questions you need to answer are:
1) What speed service did you get? Do you foresee getting a 500Mbps or faster service in the future? If so, DOCSIS version matters.
2) If the answer to #1 is < 500Mbps, do you want to buy a modem that will likely meet you needs for the next 10 years... or more buy a much cheaper model now knowing it's probably going to be throwaway if/when you want a faster service?

I'd recommend buying an Arris modem. If you prefer to invest in a longer term play, then an Arris s33 will work on WOW and Comcast for anything less than 2 gigabit for the foreseeable future. Usually $150-170 new, but Black Friday is also upon us and a deal may be found.

Yes, you can go old & cheap... pickup an SB6183, SB6141 or other for less than half the cost of the s33, but you're buying a lower end & closing on on end of life product that's likely going to max out around 500Mbps down and 150Mbps up. That speed limit might be fine today... 3/5/10 years from now, probably not.

As far as wireless AP/router goes, you can use anything from a cheap TPlink, to an expensive Nighthawk, to a wireless mesh solution like Google or Orbi or eero. For someone who doesn't know what they're doing, a wireless mesh solution is most foolproof. If you do know what you're doing, I'd recommend something pro-sumer grade like a Ubiquiti AP & controller... but this is likely beyond you given the questions you're asking.

I was going with a 600 Mps plan and the Arris S33 seems more than capable. I was looking at the mesh systems and the TP-Link Deco X-20 has pretty good reviews and seems easy enough to install. I don't use Alexa or any of the voice activated things, so I'll stay away from the Ring and Google appliances.

They say the Black Friday deals are happening now, but I'll wait a few extra days to see if the prices come down.

Are there any Comcast workers on here anymore?

TIA - grr

I have an Arris Surfboard I bought a few years ago. Somewhere buried on Xfinity's website they actually have a list of approved modems. Print it out and take it to Microcenter, they should be able to hook you up. When I tried to cancel my rental Xfinity told me mine wasn't approved so I actually had to send in a screenshot of their own website before they would switch ith. Been working fine for years, though. My wife and I both work from home and have never had bandwidth issues, and we both run conference calls and CAD data. I couldn't even tell you what my plan was, but it has never upcharged me.

Gary ditch the cable and just do streaming.
Buy your own Modem
and TV antenna for local stations.
Pay for the faster speed. You can tie any alexia/ring & amazon cameras/wifi switches into the mix.
Fraction of the cost of cable.
