Sump Pump?

Ok so I have been in the is house for 1 week now and my neighbor has bitched to me twice about my sump pump pumping so much water that it is draining across his driveway and going down his grass too.... Now I really don't know a lot about sump pumps, but I do know that if it isn't pumping water out then my basement will flood....right? I think it is pumping a lot of water cause we had a pretty fast thaw this winter and also the houses behind me are on higher ground....so my question is, is there anyone here that knows sump pumps that can tell me about them or possibly come over and take a look at mine and tell me if this is right? If it is right and normal what should I do, cause this guy is starting to piss me off, and I don't know what I can do to keep the water off his driveway
***edit*** pics are up. More at the end of the thread.

Tell your neighbor you arent going to let your basement flood so his grass doesnt get wet, then punch him in the face.

Maybe you shouldnt do the second thing.

Yes the pump sounds like it is working fine. It is emptying the sump in your basement (this is a good thing).

As for your neighbor, about all you can do is route the water to another location. You can do it with PVC pipe or any other means necessary. Just make sure you route the water so it continues to drain AWAY from the house not back towards it, or else the water will just find its way back into your sump.

I am confused...Where did the pump drain before? Or, was it not working and you had a swimming pool in your basement? LOL I would be a little put out if someone came up to me after only living in the house for a week, and began bitching about the sump pump that has been there since day one.

Yes, your sump pump needs to keep pumping the water from your basement and outside somewhere. It is illegal to connect it to the storm sewer drains..

Sounds like you have a asshole for a neighbor.
Sounds like the sump is working properly, and your getting the run off from the houses behind you. Whats out in front of you house, a ditch or storm drains?

All above is right. Where is it draining? Where has it been training all these years? Where to your neighbors drain? It should be draining underground to a sewer. Is it just exposed pipe outside your house? Did it throw any home inspection flags or concerns? He knows you just moved it....buy him some water boots and a dildo. If he doesn't appreciate the boots he can go FUCK himself ;)

Tell him that you've asked all of the other neighbors around you with higher ground to lower their houses. As soon as that happens, the problem will be solved. Tell you you think it will happen next week, but it might be a little bit longer. Just be patient. Also let him know that you're working on a weather altering satellite that will allow you to route rain away from the neighorhood as well. Then ask him for a loan.

Technically you could install a field which is just perforated PVC laying on pea gravel under the surface. This is such overkill for a sump pump drain though and would be even crazier because the neighbors driveway is "wet"

I've dealt with sump water issues before.
If possible, could you please post (or PM)
photos of your yard?

Do you have a well & septic or city water &
sewer?

A very good question is what has happened
in years past with this drain?

Keep in mind that this drain question should
only last a very short time (Spring) as the
water draining will greatly slow down as
Spring passes. It shouldn't always be like
this, however, your neighbor might be!

I'd tell your neighbor, "Hey it could be worse, it could be dog shit!"

The pump is doing its job and you didn't design the layout. You're not in fault here.

You could always re-route the drain into the sewer :ugh2: lol

you cant reroute to sewers i think incase of a flood = flooded basement
re-route it somewhere no one will care about, or make a small pea gravel field below the ground away from the house, not hard.

to answer most questions...he told me that the pump has never pumped this much water in the past 7years(first time bitching) then the second time he said 10 years...well the house was built in 1994....I honestly think he was bitching to the original owner and the original owner probably said fuck you deal with it.....
also he doesn't have a sump pump, his house is a bi/tri leval...also my basement ceiling is 8ft.

the basement has absolutely no signs of ever having water damage(1 of many reasons for buying it), the home inspection had no flags on anything involving the sump.

question on routing the pipe somewhere else....would I have to bury the pipe below the frost line so the water that stays in the pipe wont freeze?

and 4gas$, give me your e-mail and I'll send you some pics of my property..

I'd get a quote to have it "properly" ran accordingly to that neighbors standards...... then show the quote to him........ Then offer him the opportunity to pay in full the quoted price if they wish to resolve the issue. Otherwise, give him a nut to suck on.

Done

Sounds like your nieghbor had frustrations with the previous owners of your house and is taking it on you. I could be talking out my ass on this, but i think you can be cited by the city if your pumping water onto your nieghbors property. I would look into re-routing the water, probably won't be hard to do. But it does sound like ur neighbor is a D-bag for bitching about something so trivial when you just took possession of the house.

I will look into that, but my concern is IF I re-route the line wouldn't I have to go below frost line so the PVC pipe wont freeze and crack?...if that's the case I will buy the neighbor a brand new shovel and he can help me dig, cause it is at least 40+ft. from where the pipe comes out of my house to the end of my driveway.
