state cert??????

Agreed. You can send your ASE's to any state (and $25) and the state sends you the State cert. This eliminates picking a number and waiting in line.

I wouldn't waste the time to take states.
take ASE then you don't have to take the state tests

ASE is better its good for 4 years and the refresher isnt bad.. the state certs are good for one or two i dont remember. you get paid more with ASE certs........just a thought

Ironically, I'm ASE master certified myself (L1 also). I also recommend that you get ASE cert'd for the same reasons as previously mentioned. Typically your employer will cover the costs, and if you ever have to seek employment elsewhere, it sure looks good on a resume.

don't you have to be state certified either way? If not, i'm not gonna finish taking them and just finish my ASE's this November.

I am pretty sure they just want you to be certified either way. You can't work(not supposed to) without a state cert but ASE overrides most if not all states. That and most places won't hire you now without ASE.

Hey MCM. would you happen to have the L1 study guide. Its been a while and I am gonna take it

ASE is 5 years, state is 1 year

you have to have state certs to "repair vehicles for compensation for the general public"

but, as above, if you have ASE's, you can get states without any tests(just pay the $20)
