Stand Up Jet Ski Info

Alright guys, looking at possibly picking up a stand-up jet ski. Looking to stay around $1200. I've owned several sit downs but never a stand up so I'm looking for any information that will help me decide on which one to buy. From what I've seen it's mostly Kawi and a little bit of Yamaha.

Kawi offers 440, 550, 650 and 750. Yami has the 701.

Any ones to stay away from? Any specific years better than some? I see a lot of 440 and 550 Kawi's with some decent aftermarket parts for $1K and under.

I like to mod so keep that in mind.

I could write you a book if you wanted. Have you ever riden one? The JS 300/440/550 is the same hull and nearly the same motor, it is the smallest and narrowest of the hulls therefore the most challenging to ride. The 650SX is a good machine, bigger hull and motor with mods they are fun but with out mods they are kinda turds. If you can find a 750 with your cash that's what I'd go for you may be able to get a 750SX but prolly not a SXI or SXI pro for that cash. Either way they are all fun. I have 4, a JS440, JS550 with a 650 motor, 650sx, and an SXR. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I don' t think ur gonna like going from a sit-down to a stand-up. You will definitely fatigue in 1/4 the time of a sit-down...

x2...your list of jet skis looks like mine, but you got me beat.
I may sell my last remaining 650 (with 750 jugs-makes it about a 700) its got many mods and its like new....I was going to keep it, was hoping my daughters would enjoy it but I think they like couches better.
Just one other personal note...at age 50 my knees are completely shot from riding stand ups....they are fun and like a work out, depending on how hard/long you want to ride, but they take a toll on your body.

I personally think that standups are way more fun to ride, and we have both sit downs and standups. it all depends on what your looking to do?

Hey detroit gearbox, PM me some more info and pics of your kawi, ive been looking to buy another one if you do want to sell it.

Any engine better than the other...besides the obvious increases in displacement? Any have known major issues?

Any good forum out there where I can do some research?

Bump, neighbor of mine has a nice js440 for sale, and I'm interested in picking it up, how hard is it to learn these things?

( no personal experience here ) but my buddy said after about a weekend you should be able to get the hang of it. I'm also looking at picking up a stand up just to have some fun with.

Used to own a sit-down, and a friend had a standup. We'd trade often, the standup was great for stunts and whipping around. Makes me want to buy another one...

I'm about 5'6 and 135ish, would a 550 be fun? I'm not trying to set a record for having most powerful boat, but need a starter boat.

I'm 5'8" 190 ans I ride my 440 no problem but on the low end pulling you up out of the water takes a few seconds longer. Really just changing the prop out helps alot mine is a higher pitch for top speed and it's straight not variable so I could make it pop out quicker if I wanted to lose some top speed.

440"s are turds, but you can have fun riding anything. The trick thing to do with 440's is adapt a 650 motor. I'm not sure you could find all the parts anymore.
I think I'm going to have to admit my physical limitations and sell off my last 650sx. I was attempting to push it around in my garage today (cart has a flat), and realized I have not rode it in 5-6...maybe more years. Ill have to dig it out and uncover it and take some pic's and post it up. It has all the bells and whistles ...looks like the going prices on craigslist are 1200.
