Split Cycle Engine

Well, if it wasn't the 6th revolutionary new engine design that was theoretically more efficient than the standard 4 cycle engine we currently use that I have seen in the last year I might get excited about it. But theory never translates into reality so you'll problaby never hear anything about it again. Just remember, at one opint a rotary was thought to be the engine of the future. Good idea, it just doesn't live up in practice though.
 
so now that I watched the video, that is by far the most retarded engine design I have ever seen. You need twice as many pistons and valves to get the same displacement. That's twice the wieght of pistons, rods, valves, etc. Twice the frictional area. It's completely pointless. there isn't even any good theory there.
 
Rotorys are too hard to seal, Check out the dyna-cam engine that is a sweet design that never came about.

So 1 pistons just works as an air pump.... and then pumps that hot air into a normal combustion chamber/piston?

That in thery is a dual 2 stoke engine to create a 4 stroke right?

I dont understand how that is better?

Anyone care to explain?

Thats stupid. More cams/valvetrain weight if that's what they use, those dumb inlet outlet pancake things look retarted. More thermal efficiency=hotter combustion tempatures=NoX emissions at part throttle cruising will be harder to meet. Stupid, and bigger in size.
 
rotarys are awesome, none of you shall ever speak a bad word about them again!!!... jk they work great in the proper application, its just a bitch to get them to meet emissions. rotarys seal pretty good once they are warmed up, and they make good torque for their size, but because their combustion temp is probably the hottest thing next to a jet engine its very hard to get them to pass emissions, at part throttle constant load at 55mph my car would be around 1100f, at wot in 4th it would be 1650f its hard to make parts stand up to that kind of heat.
