Sound insulation under carpet?

Back in the day, I used to use Roofing Ice Shield under the carpet to soak up vibration and deaden the road noise.
Is there anything else that can be used under the carpet of a 66 mustang?
I don't want to spend a fortune on dynamat or anything like that.

New cars have spray foam in a lot of the cavities now to help with this also if you do this make sure it’s minimal expansion

I am currently looking into getting something better for my 69 fastback.

I have a completely stock style setup in regards to deadening and padding. Most of my road noise comes from the doors, and trunk area. The biggest culprit is the wheel housings. I plan to probably dynamat (or something similar) the wheel housings on the interior side, and the insides of the quarter panels. I might but some small pieces in strategic places to stop resonance from echoing through the cabin.

Also, in regards to spray foam... Watch where you put it. If you put it in a place that can trap water, thats a recipe for corrosion.

this is very true lol, this is the reason for Dodge Rams wheel well rust issues, robots didn’t put enough in and caused a cavity that collected water and mud

We used that silver stuff on some of the street rods I helped my dad build. It's on the 37' pick-up that I currently have.

Found an article from Roadkill when searching alternatives to Dynamat. This will was $16 at Lowe's. 6"x25'. It's apparently close to Dynamats original product but much cheaper.
