I guess if you make the money that politicians do, these costs may be affordable.
Unfortunately, most actual humans in the work force don't make that kind of loot...
I just switched my shitty insurance to my wife's. Funny part is that I work for a Fortune 500 company and she doesn't. 5 years ago my insurance was awesome... 85% with no copays both in-network and out-network and 2 people was $39/month. How it's $290/month just for me, adding her adds another $150 and it only pays 70% with $25 copays and $4k out of pocket. Hers hasn't changed at all but it was stupid expensive to add me to hers (like $300/month). My employer is giving me $80/month to have no insurance through them which is even less than they contribute to the HSA plan.
You can usually get group health insurance through an independent insurance agent for about $900/month so for those of you paying more than that you're either uninsurable or getting ripped off.
