I don't know how many of you are in the engineering field but I figured I'd show you guys what I'll be doing for my senior project in the next year.

It's called Formula SAE, a racing series held by SAE. Schools from around the world develop, design, and construct a Formula-1 style racecar to compete in different events (acceleration, braking, skid pad, auto cross and a 22km endurance race). There are rules just like in NASCAR (like weight restrictions, engine restrictions, etc.) so it levels the playing field. I just got back from MIS last weekend where around 120 cars from Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia competed.

You can check out our school website (Lawrence Tech. in Southfield) here.

So then you know Deividas (Dave) Alksninis and Brittany Forgue. Both of which worked with me at my current place of employment. I work about a mile from Lawrence at Denso. I'm also a Sigma Pi Alumni from the Lawrence chapter from back in 2004 so if you know a Pi, I most likely know them too.

That used to be held at Ford Michigan Proving Grounds, always the shittiest weather for it too. Some cool stuff was there, but the only time I could have seen it was on the weekends. But I'm not going to work on the weekend to not get paid

I think this year is at Dearborn.

I got an e-mail at work (GM) about volunteering for this a little while ago.

I am a fellow LTU Blue Devil ('07 alumnus although I actually graduated Dec '06).

I have nothing to add to this except I'm also a Sigma Pi. From WMU.

What type of engineering are you in? Im assuming mechanical? Im at OSU for electrical right now.

Yeah, I'm an ME. I think I'm going to go to Wayne State for Biomechanics (crashworthiness is pretty interesting) and get my Masters after I'm done @ LTU, as long as I can find a company to assist with the $$$.

It was held last weekend @ MIS. Next year I think it may be there also. We're planning on going to Virginia Int'l Raceway (VIR) also for their event.

I know you went to LTU I just never had the chance to a put a name with the face. I'm sure I've seen you around though....

The company I work for has sponsored the UM car for about the past 10 yrs.....Many of the guys who are on the team intern with us.
This year we don't have many interning though, I'm curious about the car as a few yrs back they were talking some pretty sweet stuff....

You want to sponsor us??:icon_wink Seriously....

The U of M team had some power train issues this year. I believe they tried removing too much weight out of their engine which then brought up some durability issues. I think they blew 1 or 2 engines before competition. Their damn car weight in @ 39X pounds with a turbo'd Honda F4i compared to our car with the same power train setup @ 479lbs...
