Some pictures from today's AutoX

AutoEuphoria

Captain Slow
Rode the bike over and took some pics...my car is having "issues" which prevented me from racing today. Oh well...they kind of f'd up the course layout anyway.

Hope you like the pictures!

dude i was looking through your album your guyd in Mid-Mich sure do like to kill cones good god!!

why didnt you run the MS3?

I'm having problems with it right now...either a huge boost leak or some other issue. I go from 15psi to 0.75psi at 5000 RPM (it's supposed to build to 15-16psi and hold there until redline). Seeing really low fuel pressure, too, although I think that's just the ECU compensating for low boost because the wastegate isn't opening at all. I think I might know what the issue is, but I will have to tear into it tonight to see for sure.

Here's the 3rd gear datalog from yesterday:

3rdGear9-27-09.jpg

Red line is RPM
White line (and blue scale) is Boost
Yellow line is Fuel Pressure
Light blue line is AFR
Purple line is Wastegate Open %

The blue scale (boost/vac) is hard to read, but the numbered incriments start at 15 at the top (not shown) and go down from there by 5. The first number shown is 10, then 5, then 0psi

So you can see that the AFR looks OK...fuel pressure is NORMALLY around 1000-1300 and is actually around 300 in this run. Boost drops off quickly after spiking to the normal 15-16psi. Wastegate remains closed, though...which makes me think boost leak or something. Any other ideas would be great...the people on the MS3 forum aren't being too helpful.

 I know...it was pretty funny. That runway sure does get dusty. The first group always has a hard time with traction just from all the dust. They also made this dumb thing on course (which is why I'm glad I didn't actually run)...they called it a "Plinko" section (after the Price is Right, I'm guessing). It's basically just a bunch of random cones (no actual course route) and you have to drive through that section without hitting any. Very f'ing dumb. Most of the people who got a bunch of cones got them there.

It's back to stock-ish. Still more than I could get away with, especially at Thelen. These are the guys that refused engine warranty work because of an aftermarket seat, remember.

I think I kind of have it narrowed down. I wasn't having this issue when I had the MAP clamp and MBC on, so it must have happened since I took that off. So either the ECU needs to be reset, the MAP connection itself needs to be fixed, the vacuum lines are wrong (which I know they are not), a loose coupler (which it is not), problem with the intercooler/BPV interface (might be this, but I doubt it), or the fuel pump internals that I installed earlier this year are going (which is highly unlikely because it was working perfectly with the MBC/MAP clamp combo)...that's really all I can think of. I just can't figure out how boost could drop off to zero with the wastegate closed, but I'm not exactly sure how the whole system works on this car.

One call to Mazda corp and thats fixed. if that does work call SEMA.

I used to love to own dealers up there.

The Owner of Midland Ford told me to leave (in regards to cars for the Northwood Auto Show). So i walked out to the parking lot, called a friend of my Dad's back at W-HQ, who told me to march right back in there and give my phone to him. After 5 minutes of her putting him in his place he looks at me and says "I can give you everything but a T-Bird and a Crown Vic, what can I do to make this up to you?"

PWND

I'm going to try resetting the ECU, checking all the clamps, checking the intercooler, checking the MAP sensor connection, and checking the vacuum lines...if all of that doesn't fix the problem I will put it back to as stock as I can make it and will take it in.

drive farther and go to another mazda dealer! I am sure if I ask around we can find a cool one around here no problem!

Please do...that would be wonderful. All I have done right now (performance wise) is a catless DP and midpipe, intake, and silicone couplers (instead of the rubber ones used stock).

Dude that's like every component that is involved with your issue! There is no way they are gonna warranty that! Put it back to stock and bet the issue goes away........if not then we will worry about a dealer.

Its one thing when the part is not related but this is like every part that could be causing the issue (minus the catless DP)

I'd like to hit some of these Michigan events that aren't right in Detroit but there are so damn many events in Detroit that I just can't justify it. They almost always land the same weekend as an event down here.

So I'm an idiot...the wastegate at 0 means the DUTY CYCLE is at 0, which means it's wide open (not closed). Which means it's a boost control solenoid problem, which is a common issue I guess. I feel retarded now.
