Some Bearing Carnage

This is what the ring, pinion, and pinion bearing looked like in my GTO. No wonder the damn thing was noisy. I find the obvious wear marks on the race very interesting. I discovered that the vent tube on my aftermarket cover was clogged with RTV (thanks to my brother) and I'm sure that lead to this bearing failure.

The rebuilt differential is as quiet as can be, and I'm really happy.

Nice work stock or aftermakret gear?

I'm dreading mine, it screams at speed and groans at low speeds.

Stock. With my pending relocation, doing anything aftermarket was out of the question. The build was actually quite easy. If you're running a Harrop diff cover leave the two bolts out that connect the cover to the bracket. They do not help line the diff up...LOL Other than that it's a breeze to install the diff in the car.

How many miles were on those bearings? Your problem may be caused from Electrolysis. Make sure you have a good ground from your block to the frame.

121,000+ Heck electrolysis never even crossed my mind as a cause for bearing failure.
