Silverado ZR2 concept at SEMA

Looks like Chevy is tinkering with the idea to play with the Ford Raptor :D

Will the ZR2 RPO make a return?

Silverado ZR2 concept

At a glance, it's clear the Silverado ZR2 concept wasn't designed to haul flowers back from the nursery. With its widened body, tall stance and powerful LS supercharged engine, it is ready to hit the berms, dry washes and gullies of the Baja Peninsula.
The Silverado ZR2 is based on an extended cab/short box body. The custom bodywork includes carbon fiber fender flares that stretch outward to cover the 35-inch-tall Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires and widened stance. Much of the truck's body is made of carbon fiber, including the front fenders, extractor-style hood, rocker extensions and tailgate, which features large, debossed CHEVROLET lettering as a nod to Chevy trucks of the past.
The pickup box, which is protected with a spray-on liner, features a unique locking storage system mounted to the extruded aluminum Cargo Management System rails from Chevy Accessories.
Many of the carbon fiber parts, including the hood, are clear-coated, rather than painted, to show off the intricate weave pattern of the high-tech, lightweight material. The parts that aren't clear carbon fiber are painted Dune Metallic, a color that blends with the desert terrain. A large, more prominent grille is also part of the package and is a vision of what designers would like to see in a production or accessory part. It is very functional, feeding cool air to the 550-horsepower LS supercharged crate engine from GM Performance Parts.
The combination of 20-inch BBS RD wheels – reminiscent of historic Chevy truck wheel – and aggressive Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires connect to the chassis via BDS shocks and a four-inch lift kit to help negotiate those desert trails. The new front fascia dramatically improves approach angle and skid plates protect the chassis.
The interior features more carbon fiber details on the dash, along with black leather and suede-trimmed seats with contrasting stitching to those trail runs more comfortable.
"There's more to this concept than meets the eye," said Dewar. "Some of the components are being explored for possible inclusion in upcoming models."

Same here, Raptor is one tough looking truck (sans the JCWhitney looking grille :D )

Carbon fiber fenders are a horrible idea for a car bouncing around thru gravel and rocks...have u seen what happens when a z06 crashes? they explode into a million shards

Awsome truck. But why carbon fiber that seems like it would get torn up really quick. Also Motor Trend says it AWD not 4x4 so no smokey burnouts.

Im sure anything thats going to shatter the carbon fiber would dent up a steel one pretty well. 6 of one half dozen of the other? :dontknow:

Cool looking truck!

I would assume those fenders have a liner under them to protect some from rock dings from underneath. Some undercoating would also help protect them as well. The Ultima guys use that on the gelcoat to protect from rocks coming off the tires causing dings & webs.

thats bad ass... but the ZR2 was the sonoma, s10, blazer, and jimmy... i think a special edition Z71 would be a better label...

this truck is bad ass though... id park it in the driveway

Saw two raptors driving down 94W on the way to work today. Bad ass trucks. This and the Raptor would be nice to have but I couldn't afford either. :)

Carbon fiber is stronger than fiberglass and most baja trucks have fiberglass front ends and rear 1/4 panels/truck beds. So it should easily hold up to the stress that sheetmetal is subjected to.

Ya the LSA motor will spank the Raptor and get better gas milage.
in a drag race yes. Id like to see the zr2 on some bumps though, because I doubt there are very many trucks with a $10k Fox suspension that will hang with it in the whoops

Its cool, but it looks like a SEMA truck. I doubt itll ever make it to production. theres no market for an $90K truck, which this would have to cost given the fact that it sports twice as much as that $20k a gallon carbon fiber ZR1 clearcoat, and the supercharged motor, which bumps the normal CTS up by almost 30K

Cool concept though, but id rather have them drop this in a shortbox standard cab and make it an SS

the 6.2 actually gets pretty damn good gas mileage, but yeah, an extra 150hp should be faster, although if you dropped on a Ford racing supercharger it may be a different story
