Silverado v4/v8 mode

Is there anyway to turn off the v4 mode on a 2014 Silverado without a tuner? Will the dealer do it if I ask? If not I have read conflicting write-ups that it will and wont void a factory warranty...any truth to that?

Afm is not controllable by the common operator/owner.
A dealership will not disable the feature. I'd be amazed to find any dealer to do so. Most available aftermarket tuners dont support the function to toggle it on or off. Im not sure of any under 500.00 that have the capability.
To configure it outside of GM's authorization, that'd void warranty.

It is super annoying on the highway having it switch back and forth and when it drops to v4 in the city the exhaust sounds horrid.

I plan to tune it out on my truck after the warranty expires. I should have around 45k miles at that point.

And no, the dealer cannot remove AFM.

You can tune it out with Diablo through a guy named Diablew. Or use EFI live Autocal from a company called Blackbear. Only two places I'd use. Even if you tune it out there is still extra moving parts in the valve train(extra lifters, ect.) Only way to truely get rid of it is buy a delete kit from say Texas Speed that comes with new lifters, cam, push rods, and rockers.

No problem. Perfect time to put a little larger cam in lol. Or you can tune it out now and change parts a few years from now if you still own the truck.

Ohh no lol......not going that crazy with it. Just want it to breathe shit and think a little better!

From what I have read Diablo seems like the way to go for this truck.

It does seem to be the case. However, diablo never mentions how many vehicle it will tune under one purchase. Should it be purchased to be used across 2, 3, 4 etc vehicles and are listed as supported, will it only work with one of them once designated by a vin or module PID?

EFi-la doesn't look cheap for the same thing and limits it to, "Up to 8 vehicles" and only, "with the purchase of additional service" [multiple vehicle licensing] Can be over 1100.00 before ya know it for the tuner...

DiabLEW custom tuning using the Diablo handheld tuner total cost is around $500-$550. BlackBear will sell you a EFI live Autocal with cables and custom tune for about the same cost $550. Diablo by itself is a waste of money unless you have a guy named Diablew tune it. You can buy the Diablo hand held unit from him at a discount if you have him tune your truck. Or like I said Black Bear EFI live. Just don't buy a tuner and expect the handheld unit to do much without someone writing and tweaking the tune for you.

Is it understanding programming code or understanding the parameters the reasoning for this?

With the Diablo unit you are unable to actually "tune" your truck. I/we do not have access to the software needed to re write tables, maps, timing, ect. It just has pre canned tunes installed for you to select. A guy that works with Diablo has software to write anything he wants and install it on your handheld device through data logging and email. I'm sure he's not the only one to be able to do this.
