I was recently thinking of building one. Do you have any good sites with info that I could use. Besides being able to customize it is it any cheaper than just buying a rock river?

everything you need to know right here http://www.ar15.com

as for building vs buying, unless you can wait for good deals on used parts, no real advantage to building one, execpt you can build it exactly how you want

You're just like the army: only looking out for #1 and not thinking about how your choices affect others. Now switch to an Ambi Selector Switch and I'll be happy :D

She looks great! What are you going to do for an optic or are you keeping her old school / iron sights only? How do you like the polymer mags versus metal ones? (I remember loving the steel H&K mags as they might have been heavier, but were much smoother and never jammed, but I don't know if those Magpul ones have a nice follower or something else to make them reliable).
One day when I'm not broke I'd love to go shooting with you.

Just buy a complete. Or buy a complete lower and then find an upper you like. Best way to go about it. A buddy of mine has his FFL and runs a gun store. Give me a shout and I can hook you up with him.

Hey, if a zombie eats my brains, I don't care about the next guy wanting to use my gun behind me.

I'm probably going to try a aimpoint microdot. I've tried a bunch of different optics, havent really found one I like, so I'm going to try something different on this gun. PMags are awesome. I know a couple of guys who are always doing fundraisers to send Pmags to our boys on the front lines keeping us safe. They're a lot more rugged.

You don't have to have coin to go shooting, you can use my shit.

Marc, check out these videos...

Not bad. I think it's great it can handle an up-armored HMMWV and all, but even when I was in, I tried to avoid be run over with just my body let alone my gear :P
I'm more interested in how well they feed and such. I think we all know the standard issue mags SUCK. I remember at one point my battalion collected any bad mags to have them exchanged and my platoon alone had around 50 or so. Just tossing your body armor/rig around will lead to them getting bent, let alone having to dive around or anything else.

Jerk! you should! :D

My favorite sight I used (while in of course) was my aimpoint red dot. Always accurate, durable, and simple. I never liked the EOTech, and when the one on my 203 broke during the worst firefight of the deployment, I REALLY hated them.

Thanks for the offer for the free rental. I might have to take you up on that sometime. My g/f has been bugging me for awhile to go shooting again. BTW, she really liked shooting that Beretta Storm (shot the .45ACP carbine), though still likes my buddy's FN P90 more (women... always like the most expensive stuff). I'm thinking the Storm might be perfect for me in a 9mm for the cheaper long term cost and less recoil. I still appreciate all the information you helped me to gain and would love to go shooting with you at some point. I know I'm getting rusty.

Let's get a snow shoot going :)

I'm down!
....of course I'm also gunless lol

Good to hear that the aimpoint served you well while you were in service. That makes me feel better about buying one for a SHTF gun. I might try a primary arms ones first, before I drop the coin on a real one. http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=924&categoryId=128

I've got Pmags you can try out when we go shooting. Lets quit talking about it and go though. We can go to the firearm exchange in Livonia, they let you shoot 5.56 indoors. Shoot me a PM or something, we can figure out a time.

Mike, you know of anywhere we can go shoot outside? I'd prefer that but don't know any where right now we can go.

I don't know of anywhere outdoors that we can go right now... but any day after 3:30 during the week, I can meet you at F.E. (except this Monday)

Me either, I know a few people who plan on building a back stop on their property, but none as of yet.

You want to go on Tuesday, say 5:30 or 6? I need to sight this rifle in at 25 yards at least. A starting point. Maybe Marc or Golden if you guys want to come?

Any pics of the trigger group parts? Just curious. ;)

That I do not. It's just rock river arm stuff. Nothing fancy. In fact, it could use an upgrade.

I got your PM too, I'll try to track one down for you tomorrow.

Hey I'm down, but will be working a looonnnnggg day on Tuesday so I might not be able to make it. We have a huge project on an '08 BMW M3 (full wet-sand to lessen orange peel) we've been working on and that's the day it needs to be done by. Wednesday and on I should be wide open.

I'll get with Mike and see if we can push it to Thursday. I've got to work at my part time job Wed night.
