Setting timing MSD/Ford

The car I picked up has a carburator and a billet MSD distributor with a 6AL box.
How should I set the timing considering it has no spout connector, or vacuum advance can to bypass?

Thanks!

Well you have to figure out what the total timming is + how much it has for mechanical advance + when it all comes in. Typically 12-15 degree BTDC is a safe grey area to get started. Should get you between " depends on the advance cam and wieghts and springs" anywhere from 28-34 total IIRC. . This will depend on the wieghts and spring in the distributor advance plate.

So I should be able to hook up the timing light and check total timing at a certain RPM right? Like 3000 or so? I don't even remember how much total timing an n/a Ford likes! I think I gave my blower cars around 20 degrees total with the Tweecer R/T or the SDS system.

Yeah depending on the heads/compression/camshft SBF may want anywhere from 26-38. Usually I see most street motors with decent aluminum heads in the 28-34 zone. As always your results may vary.

As to the rpm keep revving it up till it stops advancing. If it needs more initial timming you may need to get a recurve kit.
