SBF Budget Build

Looking to undergo the task of building a SBF for a sn95 body I picked up and looking to get around 470-500 horse out of the motor...

I would appreciate the help if anyone has a setup with some numbers there running. I would prefer to stick with a 5.0 block or a 5.8 windsor block

Suggestions on:

Heads
Cam
Pistons to accomplish a compression suitable for a forced induction application

Or any websites that cover a full build from top to bottom

Thanks

personally id do a 393 or 408 windsor. itll be worth saving the extra money for the stroker. go with an nice hydraulic roller setup for the cam and thatll provide great longevity. run a windsor 200 iron head to help keep the price down to cover the stroker kit. run an intake to match your cam. itll prolly be a vic jr. run a 750 or 850 holley and you should be at your power goal no problem. and also spend the extra money for good head bolts/studs and make sure you use good gaskets. the 1 peice rubber oil pan gaskets are your friend. and as far as compression ratios go id go 10.0 to 1 so itll be pump gas friendly if you wanna go n/a. with that combo on a forced induction combo could very well be a 600-650 hp combo. if a turbo/blower is in the future keep your compression down to about 9.0 to 1. hope this answers your questions. muscle mustangs and fast fords do budget builds all the time so id buy that mag if your looking for a complete build and what not.

sbf build up

jusy google it I have been doing the same and finding alot on google finding all build up's from all magazines

stock bottom end fordged 302 - tw heads- vic junior intake and a good cam choice will make 400+ N/A then just throw a lil nitrous on it and split the block.

What year block by chance had a higher nickel content for overall strength?

Does not matter imho they all will split in half at the same power level anyways. No sense wasting time and money looking for a "so called good block" unless you buy a R block or something there all the same really I would think.

Theres some early block thats good, I think is the hi-po 289 ones of some crap and those only; the early 302 blocks are no stronger than later production ones in my eyes.

well my budget build stock lower end 302 with a tfs stg 1 cam and 93 cobra heads and rockers with a victor jr intake and 150 shot went 10.80

Well I also happened to come across a complete 351W for $75.00 would that be the better route to go? From what I understand those are good to 600-650?

WAY better option! FActory crank and block on a early 351w will do 700+ with the right prep/set-up @ a respctfull rpm

the 351 blocks are definetly stronger than the 302 blocks. but depending on how tight your budget is itll cost a little bit more to put the windsor in the fox chassis. you need a different oil pan and headers. i think the extra cost would be worth it because of the strength difference alone

It would be going in a sn95 body style

The conversion list so far is

tubular k-member
78 Lincoln Oil Pan
Headers-Not quite sure what brand

oil pan, headers, intake, distributor, everything else will work

well the intake and dizzy were the obvious choices...lol. also one thing you can do is make your chassis as light as possible. that was your gonna make every hp you make as effective as possible. and make sure you use a quality suspension company. team z would be my hands down 1st choice

the car as it sits is 3250 with carpet 2 front seats and the backseat removed and trunk gutted with no spare tire. The car is getting some welds along with the removal of the carpet and replaced with something lighter like O-zite. I'm hoping when its all said and done I get it down to around 3100

thats not bad. i would definetly pick up that 351. are you running a stick or auto trans?

I haven't quite decided yet from what I understand a C4 with a properly sized stall is a perfect option for me. Then again I'm still tossing around the idea of going with a 5 speed in the car

if you wanna have fun on the street a 5 speed is the way to go. but it will get pricey if you wanna have a good 5 speed thatll handle power. c4 with a manual vb would be good for drag racing and still be able to drive it on the street
