SB 2.2 heads

What do they usually go for? I was just wondering. I figure the typical 1200-2500 for a good set of 23 degree heads would be a waste if sb 2.2 stuff is cheaper used? I know you have to have a 2.2 intake and valley tray and offset rockers and a special cam but how much more can it really be over a tpyical ground-up 23 degree small chevy build? I if i figure 1200 for a set of heads, 300 in rockers arms, 100 in push rods, 250-350 for an intake 500 in solid roller cam and lifters. It seems used nascar parts and stuff off ebay might be cheaper to go SB 2.2? :dontknow:

Take your figure, multiply x 3, then add in costs to build and balance a
good enough short block to turn 8500 rpm and your golden! To make it worth
doing you're looking at a 421 with 14-1 plus compression and you're probably
AT LEAST $8,000 into it for the longblock. Unless you're going heads up
racing, it probably ain't worth doing. ( IMHO ).

more than its worth, build an 18 degree motor or something. it'd be cheaper and easier, and probably run better on motor.

Yep that's what Vince's is...just a bunch of old nascar junk thrown together by someone that knows their shit.

Sell it and buy Vince's motor...he is thinking about turbos.

fuck that, this bitch better make at least 700-750 on motor, then add the 2 kits I am going to throw at it. 250 first fogger, 300 the second.

Anyone else have some input? Someone here must own or have owned a 2.2 headed motor.

I know a guy with sb2 heads on a 400ci motor, running 8.7's in a 3000lb car naturally aspirated!

That's why I was asking about them, plus opening the hood and seeing those valve covers would be so bad ass!

6500 in heads is a lot but I wasnt reffering to fully ported cnc stuff, just out of the box ports and mild camshaft, smallblock with pump gas would be interesting. How fast can you go with 2.2 heads on pumpgas? Then spray it a little? Sounded intersting to me.

lol like I said, Vince's 18 degree motor (nothing compared to the sb2.2 stuff as far as $$$ goes) with a single plate has gone 5.20's in the 1/8th on 28 inch et streets at 3250 lbs stock susp. What is that like 8-teens? It's been low 5.40's on radials and they only tried it once with the 28 inch ones. How much faster do you plan on going?

He only wants 12 g's for it carb to pan I believe. Fresh. I might buy it! lol

I think they make the best or at least very high on the list as far as an n/a sbc head but for nitrous you don't need THAT good of a head unless you're made of money like monte! lol

hemi, i imagine a sb2 or sb2.2 head "out of the box" is going to be pretty junk. i mean i dont know if you can even get/find them without a cnc/custom hand port job done to them, and if you can i would think it would be like most bad bitch heads and have a tiny peanut port. plus they're a pain in the ass to put on and take off a motor (6pt, 12pt, socket welded to wrench to torque, oh yea and the allen headed plug in the ports). i mean if you got the money or find some killer deal on a set of heads and matching intake cool, but it'd be cheaper and easier to do a 18 degree motor.

ltlhomer, thats a good deal for that vince guys motor, that cars a bad bitch. as far as nitrous, those sb2 and sb2.2 heads seem to make huge power with small pills. monte's gonna be in for a surprise/wild ride when he gets that thing together!

If you want performance per dollar, get a set of the brodix 18x heads...18 degree but use the standard 23 degree valvetrain stuff. Killer heads almost as good as their regular 18 deg stuff and it won't break the bank.

Yeh just a little trickier to tune I bet since the 2.2's are pretty fast burn heads compared to something like Vince's that will have a little more margin of error.

If I had some experience with big nitrous I'd sell my turbo shit and get that motor in a heartbeat but for now gotta stick to the easy turbo stuff. lol

We should have a little fun next year with this motor ;). The car is going threw some changes this winter, should be a fun summer next year. The best part is all that power on some drag radials. Man I am getting a hard on just thinking about it.

You dont even have to buy 18 stuff, find yourself a set of Pro Action or All Pro, RR 23 degree heads and make as much or maybe even more power then a 18 degree motor.
