Rust on pressure plate and flywheel

Hey guys, I'm in the process of putting my notchback back together after being disassembled for about 8 years. As one would expect, some of the metal surfaces have developed some rust. Right now I'm concerned about the pressure plate. The rust seems to be only surface rust, but I don't want to put it all together them immediately take it apart (I'll do that over the winter when another motor goes in it...I just want to drive it this year). Anyway, what would you guys use to clean this thing up? I was thinking naval jelly or a red scotch brite. It's a centerforce dual friction if that makes a difference.

With regard to the flywheel, the rust is even lighter, as it was coated very well with WD-40, so I was thinking I'd just clean it with parts cleaner and the clutch disc would clean it up.

With the advice of some others, I got her cleaned up. Medium and fine sandpaper, blue scotchbrite, parts lube, and a good hosing with brake clean. uploadfromtaptalk1348420382448.jpg

Upon further inspection of the flywheel, the rust rubs off with my finger, so when I spray it with brake clean, it should expose its freshly turned (years ago) surface.

I will probably try the apple cider vinegar on some nuts and bolts, so thanks for that suggestion.

vinegar works like a champ i use that to clean up old bmx bike parts i have a under bed storage tote filled with it i soak the parts in for about 8-12hr then check them, usually come out sweet then just rinse with water and call it a day
