Well my truck is 12 years old and it cant stay perfect forever i guess. But what can i do with this? I know the panel will eventually need replacing (and i will) but I'd like to preserve it as long as possible. the salt seems to be taking its toll on it winter even though i wash the hell out of it. There is definitely moisture beneath the paint where many of the bubbles are. It seems obvious its rusting out from the inside, so repainting wouldnt get me very far.

yea i know, my last truck rusted out here too on both sides. Just wondering if theres anything i can do, like drill holes behind it. I heard a rumor they rust here because that area is some kind of sealed enclosure. I know hydraulic oil is really good for preventing rust if i can get in there.
 
oil is good for rust, baaad for painting over lol I'd rock it for another year before it gets too bad on the inner and then drill out the spot welds and cut her out!
 
My 95 just started rotting in the cab corners as of last winter. I'm just letting mine go as mine has been a good work truck over the last 5 years and its' time for a new one anyway. :)
 
I'de try sand blasting the back side of the door and hit it with some etching primer and paint. my furd has the same problem on just the very bottom edge of the doors on the inside were the weather strip is. in the spring i'm just going to blast it all out and paint the bottom inch or so of the inside of the door with undercoat

yea, bottom of the doors ive already attacked, that was easy. I wire-wheeled them out and painted them over with chasis saver. Very good stuff, but equally expensive!

Did you separate the door seam and clean the inside? If not it will come back.
I have some rot showing up there on my GMC, that is the plan to fix that as well.

i seperated it as best as i could where the rust had already done some seperating itself. I have mixed feelings on that because now the bottom edge of my door is kind of wavy. I also drilled drainage holes just above the seam so any water that gets past the weather stripping on the window doesnt get trapped down there. But that was two years ago i did that and the rust is just starting to come back this winter now that its been getting doused with salt again. I figure on redoing it in the spring once again. Im doing whatever it takes to keep this thing rust free, I do NOT plan on getting rid of this truck. I'll buy another for DD duty some day, but this is the truck ive always wanted.
