Riddle me this.

How is it that my 28x10.5 M/T ET Drags are wider tread than my 28x11.5 ET Streets? Ignore the sidewalls the Streets are on a 10" rim and the Drags are on a 7" rim just for mockup. I tried to line up rhe start if the tread on the rh side of the pic.

ET Streets always measure narrow. The 11.5 ET Street is equivalent to the 10.5 ET Drag.

Equivalent isn't even close. The Street is narrower than the Drag even though the Street is rated an inch wider.

ET Drag is measured by tread width. ET Street is measured sidewall to sidewall. 28x11.5 et street is like a 8.9" tread from what I remember. A 28x12.5 et street is close to a true 10.5 et drag.

Oh and that 28x11.5 et street,is about 27.3" tall, not really 28".. My 275/60/15 Hoosier radial was a lot more tire when i went from 28x11.5 ET Street to a Hoosier radial. .

What everyone above said. They have always been way more narrow. Back in the day I had to get a 28x12.50 ET street to get a similar size to my 28x10.5 slicks.
 
Thanks everybody for the responses. Autoroc, I didnt realize the two tire models were not measured the same way.
Now I think i should have mounted the Drags on the 10" wheels and the streets on my narrower 7's or 8.5's.

The learning curve of these details is steep.. i guess we'll see how i hook with the Streets and go from there.

Before buying tires next time go to the manufacturers website. Hoosier, MT etc all have very detailed tire info.

A quick look says the tread width of the ET Street is 8.6" versus 10.0" for the ET Drag. You would have to go to a 28x12.5x15 ET Street to get the same 10.0" tread width.
