1) It is easier (and more natural) to go from neutral to 1st gear.
2) You can't accidentally go into neutral while accelerating and shifting through the gears. While this might not seem like such a big deal, on certain transmissions, they tend to want to explode under these circumstances.
The downside to a rev. pattern manual valve body is typically you will lose your "engine braking" function of the transmission. I have a standard pattern man. VB in my race car trans just because I wanted to retain this function.
