Reverse pattern valve bodies

What is the advantage of a reverse pattern valve body?

I would think it would be easier to pull back on the shifter the push forward

1) It is easier (and more natural) to go from neutral to 1st gear.

2) You can't accidentally go into neutral while accelerating and shifting through the gears. While this might not seem like such a big deal, on certain transmissions, they tend to want to explode under these circumstances.

The downside to a rev. pattern manual valve body is typically you will lose your "engine braking" function of the transmission. I have a standard pattern man. VB in my race car trans just because I wanted to retain this function.

Ok, so then what is advantage of a manual valve body?

Actually, to the best of my knowledge, all reverse pattern VB's are manual. The advantage is full manual control of your transmission, just like a regular stick shift trans, but without the clutch. Whatever gear you select with your shifter it will instantly go to (and stay in) at any time, regardless of your engine or vehicle speed.

You know, it might actually just be the 1-2 shift due to pressure.
