Hello Motown!

So we're currently renting the Comcast modem/route combo, but it's going to start becoming less cost effective @ $10/mo.

Recommendations for replacement? Thanks all!

Yup! I pretty much indirectly created this thread for his response ;)

Thanks Tin!

That modem is a workhorse, been running it for 5 years now. It has more than paid for itself.

With that modem, you may get one of the morons at comcast tell you they can't activate it because its too old. They retired the model. That was the old DOCSIS 2.0 model. Just ask for tech support.

The sb6141 is docsis 3.0. ;)

I know. That's what I was saying. The SB6141 is on their retired list. So the morons will tell you you can't use it. They don't understand the difference between docsis 2.0 and 3.0. The people in tech support know the difference.

Direct number for tier 3 Comcast Technical Internet support.....18009220204

Please dont ask me how i got that, the anger was strong that day and i dont want to relive it. But its a direct number to Teir 3.
Save it, it comes in handy.

Quick question for the guru's - Is it better to separate components? Are the combined router/modems have too weak of a signal or do you get more features?

Tx.

The combined units are typically very limited in features compared to separates. A standalone router will have a more powerful radio than an all in one.
