So we go car shopping for my wife yesterday. She has an idea of what she wants but I felt we should look at everything that fits the basics of what she wants and is in our price range. So we end up at the Acura Dealer in Ann Arbor (The TL is top of her list with the IS250 AWD a close second) We were trying not to take up too much of the sales persons time we just wanted to look at the cars take a test drive (if she liked it and it was in contention).
So of course we get back form the test drive and my wife was clearly impressed with the car and the sales man give the old "Would you buy the car today?" line. I figured I'd play and said yes if the numbers are right. So we go in sit down and he asks if we have a trade. Yeah it's right out there, I give him the keys and someone checks it out .....Yada,yada,yada... we sit back down about 45 minutes later:Yawn: and he goes over the pricing of the cars ...MSRP for the 2007 & Invoice for a 2006 that he has on the lot. I'm like OK what are you going to offer on the trade? He slides me over a piece of paper that has all the numbers on with a $4000 number circled:icon_eek: with the comments great car, great shape but high miles. Now I've done some research and I know the car is worth about 10-11k trade in value and I've been watching a BMW forum where a couple 323i sold for 14k this is a 2000 328i in great shape it does have 120k but come on 4k:dontknow:
I'm like that's kind of low isn't it? He reply that's what it's worth our guy is at the auctions every day.:bs: He goes would you like to make an offer? I'm like sure...I grab the paper and write down a 20k offer MSRP is like 37k:icon_mrgr He looks at me and says "are you serious?" I replied "Yes!" He goes "we can't even entertain that offer" I stand up and say" Look if you want me to give you my car then you are going to have to give me yours, when you are done playing games and want to sell a car let me know " and we left.
BTW if the deal was right I would have left with a new car.
