Rant on....Buying a new car

So we go car shopping for my wife yesterday. She has an idea of what she wants but I felt we should look at everything that fits the basics of what she wants and is in our price range. So we end up at the Acura Dealer in Ann Arbor (The TL is top of her list with the IS250 AWD a close second) We were trying not to take up too much of the sales persons time we just wanted to look at the cars take a test drive (if she liked it and it was in contention).

So of course we get back form the test drive and my wife was clearly impressed with the car and the sales man give the old "Would you buy the car today?" line. I figured I'd play and said yes if the numbers are right. So we go in sit down and he asks if we have a trade. Yeah it's right out there, I give him the keys and someone checks it out .....Yada,yada,yada... we sit back down about 45 minutes later:Yawn: and he goes over the pricing of the cars ...MSRP for the 2007 & Invoice for a 2006 that he has on the lot. I'm like OK what are you going to offer on the trade? He slides me over a piece of paper that has all the numbers on with a $4000 number circled:icon_eek: with the comments great car, great shape but high miles. Now I've done some research and I know the car is worth about 10-11k trade in value and I've been watching a BMW forum where a couple 323i sold for 14k this is a 2000 328i in great shape it does have 120k but come on 4k:dontknow:

I'm like that's kind of low isn't it? He reply that's what it's worth our guy is at the auctions every day.:bs: He goes would you like to make an offer? I'm like sure...I grab the paper and write down a 20k offer MSRP is like 37k:icon_mrgr He looks at me and says "are you serious?" I replied "Yes!" He goes "we can't even entertain that offer" I stand up and say" Look if you want me to give you my car then you are going to have to give me yours, when you are done playing games and want to sell a car let me know " and we left.

BTW if the deal was right I would have left with a new car.

Anyone have a Acura hook up or knows someone that want to buy a BMW?

4k? Jesus. Got almost that on my 2000 S-10 (2.2 auto 2wd TURD, 85k on the clock and starting to use oil) on wednesday. Traded in at a chevy dealer. Sounds like you handled yourself well after the $4,000 offer. I would have had a heart attack.

Obviously they don't want to sell a car. I wouldn't go back to that dealer.

They're just used to dealing with yuppy motherfuckers who just have to
have the latest trendy make and they get to name their price. Nice play.
They need more of that. I used to go in and negotiate a cash purchase price
on a car and then try to make them give me that price financed. :icon_mrgr

Awwww this is my favorite topic :D

I'd love to sell you a Ford or Lincoln-Mercury product. I'll run your car past our wholesalers and see what they think it's worth. Remember it's only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. ;)

Ohhh Fuck that. I was offered 50% more than that on my 01 Jetta for crying out loud and even that offended me to the point where I now have a car I don't drive and a new car too. I'm sorry - I just refuse to give my shit away. I'd rather keep it in the garage and drive it twice a month to the grocery store.

You know I'd be coming to you in a second to buy a Ford product.

But 4k, come on, It will be my beater before i give it away. KBB is over 9K for trade so where do they come up with 4k?

PLEASE sell him a Ford, trunk. I NEED TO WORK!

Do me a favor and talk to your designers, if you have a chance go test drive what Ford has to offer in that category say a Lincoln MKZ (which we did, my wife really wanted to support ford) then go sit ion a Lexus IS or a Acura TL and tell my want you would spend your money on. Ford is soooo far behind the eight ball it isn't funny.

Please buy a Ford, DCX or GM Product. We don't need another import on the road!!!

Import? It's built in Maryville, Ohio 70+% US parts.

BTW I did my part, we bought a Ford F-150 with in the last year & I own 2 Corvettes but the Domestic automakers offer nothing I like in the mid priced luxury market

Usually the used car salesman go by the "black book" and what recent auction market reports indicate for a certain vehicle. But that does seem low.

Ken, just curious, has your wife/you ruled out all american cars as possible choices. And if so why?

No cars are out of the question, actually Ford Vehicles were looked at first ie Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Jaguar & Volvo.

I did however rule out German cars because I do not like Germany's attitude toward the US & it's policies. I would perfer to buy a car built in the US in a non-union factory but that will not necessarily rule out a car just break a tie.
