Ok so me and the wife were on our way to Boston Market today to grab some dinner. Her van, a 1997 Chrysler T+C AWD w/ 3.8 and about 130k on it acted up briefly. We were sitting at a light like normal and I felt the idle stumbling some. When the light turned green I let off the brake and the van would'nt move. I tried every gear even cycled it to park and back through every gear again and nothing just a free revving motor with no movement. So I pushed it into the nearest gas station with the help of two very kind individuals. Once on flat ground I briefly inspected the front axles, driveshaft and checked the rear end for leaks. Got up checked the tranny fluid and it was full. After all this I got in the van put it in drive and low and behold it moved. We drove it home (bout 5 miles) on side streets and some short main roads and everything seems fine now. What would cause this??? Im totally confused! Maybe a plugged/dirty filter?? The control module?? Idunno. Any help would be appreciated and if it persists if anyone is in the Westland/Garden city area and could check it out please let me know. Thanks in advance, all advice and knowledge is appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

first off, check the fluid level and condition. a filter and fluid change may be needed but its unlikely that is what your problem is. there may be a problem with the electrics plate in the valve body or some sticking valves. assuming its a trans problem (which is what it sounds like) since it moved after it sat im ruling out a broken CV shaft. (still check them though)

any check engine light?

Nope.... Tried to re-create the condition earlier and it drove fine till I cornered hard...then she slipped out of gear. Splashed a 1/2 qt of fluid in it to make sure its good and topped off took the same corner in the same manner. No slip. Will keep you updated as we drive it more through the week. Thanks for the responses thusfar!

hmm... wonder if the trans filter came loose, it is just pushed into the hole

our 94 van with the electronic trans does this once in a while. I'd have to think its something sticking in the valve body. Ours doesnt slip except for the occaisional no gears surprise though. The older model van we had you could reset the computer with the key off for 55 seconds, sometimes it helped make it shift normal again.
