Question for the auto trans gurus

Looking for some technical insight on my trans. Just cuz it confuses me.

My ls1 has a supposedly built TH350 behind it, with a forward manual valve body. What confuses me is that the guy I got the car from said that he sprayed it at too low a speed and it messed up the trans, so when he had it rebuilt, he did something to it so that you couldnt go into 2nd at too low of an rpm.

When I drive it, if im under 2500 rpms or so and I click it from 1st to 2nd, it stays in first, when im racing or giving it gas and shift like 3k+ itll bang right into second with a nice firm shift, but if I skip second and just click from 1st to 3rd at like 2000 rpms, itll stay in first then shift into third once I get up to speed. I didnt think a manual valve body would wait to shift, but the trans has no strictly automatic mode either, so i dunno.

Anyone know what this things got in it to drive this way? Its just kind of annoying because I cant just click into 2nd and putz thru my neighborhood, gotta roll thru at 3000 rpms
 
Does it have a cable going to the throttle body ? If so he hoked up the TV cable to overide the manual shift. Which is fine. Does the trans shift automaticlly ? It should. Sounds like a transgo -2 th350 shift kit to me.

nope, no TV cable, it wont shift into third on its own, I have to move the shifter to 3rd. If im in second and shift to third, its immediate, but if i am in first and dont have enough rpm to shift to second yet, but click it to third, itll stay in 1st until it gets enough rpm, then it shifts on its own. this doesnt happen from 1st to second though

does the trans have a vacum line ? Sounds like somebody really mucked with the governor circuts.
 
Thats some funky shit right there. there are a few ways you could do this most involve the governor oiling circuts. Why on earth someone would do this is beyond me.

Something does not add up. Spraying at a low speed makes no difference to a transmission with a fwd manual v-body/sounds like someone did not follow the instructions properly when installing the kit. Transgo still uses the govoner but blocks the weights outward...sounds like they did not install the clips properly or missing another step in the installation. The 1-2 shift valve should move when you move the manual lever...sounds like the govoner valve is still functioning...putting enough pressure on the 1-2 valve to shift it. I don't believe those results were intentional...sound like bs.

there a few hillbilly shift kit mods you can make to the th350 to get this behavior. why on earth someone would is beyond me.
 
well its coming out anyway. but now im gonna have to fix it before i sell it, or at leastlet them know it drives differently. thanks for your help guys. i didnt wanna sell something that wasnt what it is
