Hey Guys,
Recently I noticed an issue with the 2001 SOHC Bullitt (car only has 26,000 miles on it) the problem is hard to replicate and somewhat random. Sometimes it will happen a couple times when stopped.
When I am stopped at a traffic light and idling the oil pressure gauge goes into very low pressure (red). I give it some gas and it goes right back to normal, and stays there until the traffic light changes. This will not happen all the time and NEVER happens when I am driving and the car is moving. Like I said, the gauge never stays at the very low pressure, and it only does it at idle and will rebound back to normal when I give it gas. This doesn't happen all the time.
I am very concerned, I checked the oil and it is fine (full and no smell).
I have read that the gauge is a dummy gauge and not accurate at all. There was a recall on the gauge. From what I understand is that it works on a switch deal, and reads full or none. There was a recall on the sending unit too.
I am going to take the car into Roy O'brien tomorrow, just to be safe. Am I over reacting? Anyone else had this problem. Like I said only happens when stopped, at a light or parked, and corrects itself as soon as you give the car gas. Engine temp has no bearing on the problem either.
What would you do? Thoughts/suggestions welcome.
Thanks guys!

Ford has a SSM/special service message #14907 that states that 99-01 Mustangs and other Fords may have defective oil pressure sending units that would cause the gauge to read zero oil pressure when the engine is cold and would cause the needle to swing from zero to normal-and back again- when the engine is cold. The original sender unit part number F8AZ-9278-DA should be replaced by oil sender unit 1U5Z-9278-DA.
This problem seems to possibly effect all V8 Fords for 1999 thru 2001.
This should be covered under warranty. Give the service order writer the above SSM number and the new part number of the oil sender unit.
