Question about transfer case?

A friend of mine took her 02 Mountaineer to the dealership only to find out that the transfer case is going out. Is it less expensive to get it rebuilt or do you have to buy another unit? The dealership was telling her 3k plus.

we don't see many getting rebuilt. how about a used one with some sort of warranty?

Used is most likely the cheapest alternative. If you want have her call me with the vehicle information and I will qoute her to replace the T-case.
