Question about A/C

Hey guys...hopefully an easy question for you. Ever since I got this GTO, there has been a grinding noise from the A/C pump when it is not engaged. I don't know much about the system, but I'm thinking that when it is off the pulley is basically just an idler, then, when you turn it on, a clutch engages and drives the pump. When the pump is engaged, the grinding noise goes away, so I'm really confused about what could actually be happening.

I never use my A/C anyway, so I was actually just wondering if there is any issue just removing the belt that drives the A/C? I believe it's on its own belt (from looking at the diagram), and not from the normal serpentine belt. I figure if I remove that belt, the wheel won't turn, and the grinding noise will not be there. I know it's a total bandaid fix, but I just don't have the extra money right now (or care enough) to get it fixed.

It'd be belt number 2 in that diagram.

My s10 would make a nasty noise when not engaged, more of a light grinding/jingling noise, I can't bypass the thing and it doesn't even work so I would just take and squirt some wd40 in between the plate and it takes care of it.

You should be able able to remove the belt but if you drive it in the winter, your defroster (Not talking about the rear window grid) might not work as well because they usually run the a/c compressor to help remove humidity.

you could buy a new ac compressor clutch, it sounds like the clutch because with it not on it will make noise (ie the ac pulley/clutch is spining) but with the ac on it will not make noise (ie the pump is spining and the clutch is engaged)
