looking into buying a 418 stroker long block assembly from my brother inlaw, all brand new, ready to be assembled, and was wanting to know if these are reliable engines for the street and at the strip on occasion. It's an 11:1 kit w/forged crank,h-beam rods, main girdle, balanced etc. What kind of power are these capable of making with a carb and also could I put about 5lbs of boost to it with a roots supercharger(174cu)?

With the right heads, it will make awesome power. The a 174 roots blower would be nothing but a waste of time on that motor. It might make more torque, but you won't need any more with a 418. Make sure you use good heads, that engine has more stroke than a big block Ford, so you will need intake runner volume.

my dad has a 408 in his shelby and it should make about 550 at the crank. hes running a 1970 block so its plenty strong enough. and he converted it to a hyd roller so it should be very streetable and virtually maintainance free if he chose to do it like that. they can be very good motors.

I believe the heads are 225cc runers and they are CNC ported aluminum heads but they are bare so I need to put valve train into them. Why would the charger be a waste of time? what about NOS for the track?

Those heads should work nicely on it, what kind are they? That blower doesn't move enough air to work right with that big engine. I'm familiar with that blower from back in the day. It would seriously be a waste of time. That motor will make some big power anyhow, even only 11:1 in street trim it could go 9s on motor if everything is right. And nitrous will work nice on it if the pistons are set up for it.

the blower would be a waste due to the small size of the blower and the size of the motor. its just too small for that motor. if anything id run a turbo but you would have to lower your compression ratio. if the motor is built right you can spray it all day long with a 200 shot and be fine. you just will have set your motor accordingly

OK I understand what you guys are saying about the blower but what do you mean about the pistons being set up for it? Are you talking the profile of the crown?

Sounds ike a pretty good combo, I hope it works out it is similar to what I am having built. I will be running AFR225's with 2.080 intake valves and 1.600 exhaust valves. My build is on hold till this fall though.

meaning forged, hypereutectic, cast...ect. If you want to add forced induction or N20 a forged piston is a very good idea, I wouldnt do it without them
