***Proposed Idea***

So, I started this thread a while ago....

http://motownmuscle.com/forums/show...-of-long-term-projects-are-you-not-working-on

I just ran across this thread on another forum today:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=319886

I know a member mentioned it in my thread, how it would be cool to have a Motown get together to help people get their projects up and running or breathe new motivation into the owners. Maybe teach a skill to people willing to learn (body, paint, engines, tuning, wiring, welding, etc)

What are everyone's thoughts on a club meet at a member of the month/week/whatever to help get things back on the road or track?

Spring is right around the corner.

Great idea!!!!

How does everyone feel about doing a little
body work on a nice GT convertible? :secret:

Fantastic idea. When I was a youngster, I used to tag along with my Dad way back when he belonged to the Ford Mercury Restorers club. It was a blast.

I'm in.

The Pantera club in California has done that for a long time now. People go to a different person's house every month, or so and help someone out with a particular problem. A lot of the Tech Sessions are pretty involved like changing clutches or intake manifolds. Sometimes they address specific problems unique to the Pantera like steering rack bushings. 5 or 10 people will show up with parts in hand and everyone will jump in and remove racks and finish everything up. Sometimes they'll have tune-up parties...

That normally has a pretty big turnout every month. Most of the people are there just to work on other peoples car...

Hey, it's tough with working schedules, etc. But we're car people and this is what we do. I think it's a great idea.

The Grand prix Club that I was in for a while used to have "Mod Days" where everyone would get together and help each other with Mods. Something like that might be cool. It is tougher for a club like MM, though, where everyone doesn't have the same car (but that is part of what makes MM cool in my book).

So everyone got together to take out a headlight for ram air? :)

We called this a ModFest back in the day. Bring your car and mods and people help tackle the job. It was pretty fun, had a lunch break, etc.

Bring go pro's, record it, and then post video's for the people not able to make it. Turn it into a tech tips channel on youtube and use the proceeds to fund club events.

Im sure it will greatly depend on schedules and location/how far anyone is willing to travel.

So, who needs what help with what projects?

I see 4gas$ has some bodywork needed.

I think this might work out a bit better than a bi-annual dinner. There are more members with projects that need some sort of help as opposed to trying to get a huge group of people all together.

When I was kid in highschool I had a group of friends we hung out together and built each other's cars
It's amazing how fast an engine could come out when there were 4 or 5 guys working together
Damn that was a long time ago in a simpler world
I would love to be part of something like that again!
And I would love 3 or 4 people around to help with a few things on my F 100

I can pick things up, and set things down!! That's about all I'm good for, but I'd love to learn even if I have to flip the burgers! Most weekends work for me.

I hosted a few of these similar to the one posted on garage journal for one of the now-prominant car audio sites many years ago. Basically everyone showed up to listen to each other's system and offer tuning advice or installation suggestions. Had successful national competitors show up and help tune systems of anyone who'd take the time to listen. Was an extremely fun thing to do and I would be 100% down to help out in any way I could if Motown did something similar. Hell maybe eventually my 13 year project could some fire breathed into it too. :)

Not to seem pushy but what's the next step on this idea? Life is to short to delay. I have read a lot of post on this forum that refer to people's best memories of a car being the time spent working on it with a father, child, freind, whatever the case. So let's help somebody get to that point. I know how good it feels to hear a project fire up for the first time or make its first pass. Maybe the long time high ranking members could choose someone or already know who could use the help. In addition if the person picked does not have a facility or garage that could accommodate the project maybe another members garage or shop could. I just hate to see this idea sit in limbo when spring is fast approaching and we as a group could help.
