Project: "Seeing Red" and "...I don't work on my own junk" and "you can see my ET, I don't care"
I guess I'll start with the inspiration for this car. Two or three years ago, the night before the Woodward cruise, like 12 or 1am, I'm still out there cruising in some car (I forget if it was mine or my buddy's) and it seemed like we were the last ones out there and everyone had gone home. So we were heading north just past 13 mile on our way home going about 30 to 35 mph. Out of nowhere, this pack of 3 or 4 f-body's, all loud as hell and rolling on big tires, slowly creep by us. They were just messing around with each other doing quick pulls here and there. It was just so cool to me for some reason, as lame as it may sound. Anyway...
Back at the end of May I picked up a bone stock (and I mean bone stock down to the lid & filter) '98 Camaro for super cheap. Found it on eBay, local car. High miles but was taken care of very well, all maintenance was documented. Allegedly was the wife's daily. Auto trans, cloth interior, t-tops, heat, AC, radio. Everything on the car works just fine as if it were new.
Took it to Milan for June no ET. Best was 13.77 @ 100 MPH w/ a 2.0 60 foot on 225 snow tires. That was a really fun day w/ some fellow MM members.
I originally just wanted to do a converter, wheels / tires, & a rear end gear. Of course that didn't pan out according to plan ("oh you need to do this if you do that..." kind of stuff), so these parts are going on ASAP, will be done before the cruise & August no ET. The goal is to have a reliable street / strip car that still has heat, AC, radio, and full interior.
For now that list is (copy & paste from my receipts):
UMI 3 point weld in sub-frame connectors
UMI Weld-In Lower Control Arm Relocation Brackets
UMI Tunnel Brace Mounted Torque Arm w/ DSL
UMI On-Car Adjustable Lower Control Arms & Panhard Bar
Transmission Cooler
Yank SS3600 Torque converter
Pacesetter Long Tube Headers w/ new Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
19" O2 Extensions- Pair
Texas Speed 3" Off-Road Y-pipe
Texas Speed Rumbler Cat-back Exhaust System
Poly Trans mount
Solid Motor mounts
Plug wires
Iridium Plugs
15" Prostars w/ 10.5" ET streets out back.
There will be regular updates w/ pics for what's going on w/ the car. I'll be out on Woodward & at Milan for the rest of the year once this stuff gets done and assuming nothing on the car breaks. Expect to see me out there late at night for the week or two before the cruise
This weekend should be the last time I cruise with it stock (well, it has a lid on it now). Feel free to say hi if you see me.
