No smartass responses needed. If you are not a friend of Dogs, then you are no friend of mine.....

When are people going to start blaming the owners for mishaps with dogs? Its always the dogs fault. Most people who have asshole dogs shouldnt have a dog in the first place, be it a yapper or a pit. The owner is the one that raised it to be that way.

Absolutely correct

I wonder how many of these dog threads are gonna pop up before we realize that we can't change everyone's mind on how they feel about dog's? Some people are animal lovers, some animal haters, some are in between.

No such thing as a bad dog, only a lowlife bad owner......

Rudy

I wish this statement were true, but science proves otherwise. This is just the same thing as saying that there is no such thing as a bad person, just bad upbringing. It's unfortunately completely false. Psychopaths and sociopaths can be born crazy, just like dogs can be. The answer is actually much simpler with dogs. Do any of you guys get National Geographic? There's a fascinating article on evolution and breeding as it pertains to K9s. It focuses on an experiment that's been going on in Russia for 50+ years, but it also gives a lot of background on the history of domestic dogs, and exactly where they came from and how and why. They *all* were descended from Wolves, Fox, Coyote, etc, and their history and family tree can have everything to do with their behavior and their POTENTIAL behavior.

Obviously bad treatment/training can contribute to a badly behaved or dangerous animal, but to blame the owner in every case is just flat out stupid and straight up wrong. I think the statistic for dog bites where the dog has never shown aggressive behavior or bitten anyone before the incident is like 2/3ds or something?

I don't have time to type more, but I get sick of seeing the statement above, which I wish was true, but is unfortunately false.

Note: I AM NOT SAYING ALL PIT BULLS ARE BAD! I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION PIT BULLS!!

My post above actually doesn't single out ANY breed.

Actually you're all wrong. Stubby was a mutt - but he WAS a mix of bully breeds... Possibly even some Boston Terrier... :)

Stubby was a stray found around the Yale campus in 1917 and trained by John Robert Conroy, obviously looks like a bully breed but his true ped...?

Non the less, nice post!

Stubby was a Bull terrier not a "pit bull"

no he was not...clearly not a bull terrier...http://www.akc.org/breeds/bull_terrier/index.cfm

also..pit bull is not a breed...it is a grouping of breeds ;) American Pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier are the breeds generally in the "pit bull" category. Although there are people who throw other breeds in there.

You could possibly be thinking of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier SBT http://www.akc.org/breeds/staffordshire_bull_terrier/

There have been many claims as to what Stubby was. I don't think anyone will ever know for certain.

I think we can call agree that he was a blood thirsty baby eater. /thread

News to me, I think pit bull owners are hypersensitive to this sort of stuff.

Negative, not all. Wouldn't you be upset if your family pet was taken from you and put down because of it's breed? BSL is being passed all over the country.

In Denver, animal control literally went to the homes of registered pitbull owners, confiscated their dogs and euthanized them after legislation was passed.
