Places to take a little kid to ride dirtbike

Thinking of buying my son a Honda XR50 with training wheels. I have a huge backyard but I am in a sub, so he can learn to ride at my house on training wheels. But once he's big enough to ride it without them, I'll want to take him somewhere he can just take off and ride. Doesn't have to be a race track, doesn't have to even be way up north on an ORV trail, just somewhere flat, open and legal for him to go around in circles.

Anybody know (or) go to any places? I have a few 250's I ride, but I don't have to fire those up to follow him. I can follow him on my 73 Honda Trail 70, or on foot. He's only 17 months now but he already shows huge interest in my Honda 70, but that's way to tall for him to ride. I couldn't touch the ground on that til I was 8 years old. I wanna get him up and going in this when he's between 2 and 2.5 years old.

could also just set the throttle stop so it goes slow and run him up and down the street till he gets the hang of it or find some dte power line paths. there's usually trails up and down both sides.

how close to newport are you? i got a spot that would be perfect.

We are in Macomb. I def will take him up and down the street or sidewalk. Our sub is small and has low traffic. Luckly, I was one of the houses that got a generous amount of property for our lot. There are a few lots that are bigger but this is plenty of space for a 2 year old. I just want to get him somewhere without people staring (neighbors) and somewhere the feels up north.

Bubba....yeah, I gotta find someone with property to be friends with. lol. Our up north family cabin is long gone.

There's a huge place by flint called "The mounds" that has flat area and different trails... Bundy hill is by Jackson...

Those are the two closest places that are designated as a ORV park...

You could try a big parking lot that is empty on the weekends. Trucking company or something like that.

I heard of the Mounds from the guys at Magic Racing. As long as there is a safe place for a little dude, I can try it. I know I can take my bike there and ride too, but for now this will be just for him.

Yes it can be very safe... There is a section that's for ATV and Dirt Bike only...

When you want to go let me know... We can take my white truck to get to that area for him...

I ride at Bundy Hill. Probably a drive for you, but that place is huge. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but you will damn near have the place to yourself on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks nitrousrick. Good to know. The game has changed. When I was a kid, we just went up and road. Might have had stickers, might not have. We never saw them in Oscoda, not once. That was and still prolly is no man's land. Haven't been up since 98, but wow, there was nobody up there back then. Almost scary if your bike died in the woods or got hurt.

You're probably still fine but it's better to know the facts. If you run into a DNR officer that wants to cause you some pain they can legally do it. My son is 5 and has an XR50 so I found that link when I was searching for the answers you have. I have 3 acres which satisfies him now but won't forever. :)

21mile an fairchild was always a good time. Heard of alot of guys having cop problems but Ive been back there 100s of times no issues. ... (knock on wood)

Absolutely. 3 acres would be awesome. That should satisfy him for a few more years. At least on the small bikes. 50, 70, 80 might not be a problem, but 125's and 250's 450's might cause a lot of noise for any neighbors nearby, or the property just be too small for his riding ability. It would be awesome to do a little pit bike track for him tho, unless you've already done so. :)

I've heard this and my Dad saw bikes over there a few weeks ago. Where at exactly? We both live 5 minutes away from there.

Right on the northeast corner. Follow the path in from either fairchild or 21. Its actually pretty big once you get back in there
