Announcement tomorrow at 3 PM. Sharing the building with the Red Wings.

Not super thrilled. I've had season tickets for 17 seasons, so good times at the Palace, but primarily hate the logistics of downtown.

Oh well!

Is there anything worth traveling out to that part of town now for? used to be Great Lakes Crossing, the Pistons, Lions, Chrysler Museum? now what? All of that is gone or pointless (Not sure on GLC as I've not been in many years)

GLC is garbage now. Way too many people. Its nice to have all of the stores but its just a hassle

Per my friends who worked with the wings at the time Gores purchased the team this was a done deal as soon as the new building was built.

As soon as the Wings hired Tom Wilson and other pistons execs. there was no doubt.

I wonder how long until they announce Illitch is buying the pistons.

Especially on Black Friday. GLC parking lot is a zoo. We go to birch run every year and it's a much better experience. Same stores and you got Frankenmuth nearby for some chicken dinner :)

Was wondering why they had 2018 1 & 2nd Rd March madness games listed as "new Detroit Arena" when they announced future sites last year. Makes sense now. Usually they held it at the palace. (Except for final four and regionals. Those were at ford field back in 2008/09

Good. I was at the Pistons game on Saturday night and getting out of the parking lot was a disaster. I'd rather deal with 75 and the Lodge and be home in 20 minutes after the game vs 75/Square Lake/Telegraph.

So Gores owns the Pistons & the Palace of AH outright. So what's the $$$ play to move the team to an arena where he'd presumably have to pay rent? I'm sure the property that the Palace sits on is worth more than, say, where the Silverdome is. But something still doesn't add up - what am I missing? He sells the Pistons to Illitch and then sells the Palace property for condo development?

You just don't have the system down. I'm in and out of that parking lot with the quickness.

This. There's weirdness here.

He's definitely not selling the Pistons. Gores has major fuck you money. It's a trophy asset where he can be semi-famous. Every time he's in town for games he's on the sidelines throwing out shirts and dancing and generally desperately trying to be a celebrity. The guy bought the team, the arena and several ancillary business for $320 million. The team alone is now worth at least double that, and that's a conservative estimate. On a good day if the team was on a good run, I could see someone paying $750 million+.

The dude just bought a $100 million house in Holmby Hills. Money isn't a concern.

We get the 10 game mini plans, I think this is going to be the end of them for me.
As far as the parking/getting out of the Palace, once you knew you're way around you could get out in 15min.

Come in off the back entrance on Harmon road. Park as close to that exit as you can, and when you leave it takes you around the back to I-75. I'm out of the lot in under 90 seconds pretty much every game.

I have a buddy that lives right next to the new arena so I guess I'll park at his place. But even there I've had my car window smashed out.

This. If Harmon gets too backed up going to Joslyn, you can always hit Giddings and take that to Brown and hit 75 from there as well.

I just drive in the center lane especially because I turn left at the light. The source of many road rage altercations over the years, despite the fact that they periodically even put up a fucking sign that says "Form 2 Lanes."
