Anyone ever get a speeding ticket in Iowa? This past weekend i got a $189 ticket. Should i pay it? What will happen if i don't? Can Michigan give me a warrent for a unpait ticket out of state? I am NEVER going back to that lame shit state again so not sure if that makes a differance?

You can write a letter to contest the ticket to the district attorney's office for whatever county you were in... but I'd make sure to use spell check if I were you. :D

I got a speeding ticket there around 10 years ago. Back then at least the points never hit my license and it never went on my insurance. Don't know if they still suck at letting other states know what is going on or if they would report you to Michigan for non-payment of a ticket.

Send them a letter telling them to take the ticket and stuff it because youre never going to that lame shit state again. They'll probably drop it.

If you don't pay it, they will issue a warrant for the state, so if you ever go back and meet smokey again, you'd have some 'splainin to do. I doubt I would pay for it since I would never go to Iowa ever again, lol.

One thing you can try is to call the court clerk, explain how you live in MI, and ask to speak with the prosecutor or his assistant. Explain how you're never coming back to the city and they have two options, take the $50 that you're going to send them and dismiss the ticket, or, get nothing. The court system is like a business, they know you'll never pay if you say you wont, and they may want to 'make a deal' and at least get $50 and call it a day.

good luck.

Send them a letter written in braille, explaining that you are blind and never drove in their state. It must be identity theft.

I got hit in Iowa when I was moving out here. I paid it by phone with a credit card. The courts clerk sent me a thank you recipient.

Just pay the ticket, you never now when you'll be going after a job in your future and it could come up on a security check.

Hotrodhawk has a point...

If you don't want to pay the ticket, don't just ignore it or call up like a jackass to the court or prosecutor.
I can tell you when I get letters in the mail from out of staters, I generally dismiss... and when people come in... I'm pretty lenient... Unless they don't laugh at my jokes... then they get community service.

Pay the ticket. But if you go thru Oklahoma, put the hammer down. And if you get pulled over, make sure to ask the cop, "Do you know who the fuck I am????" in a real loud voice. If they insist that they write you a ticket. Drop Kim's name and let the cop know you'll see him "in court, Mutherfucker!" I'm sure because you name dropped Kim's name, she'll get you off. Come to think of it, this probably would have worked in Iowa too.

I have to go out to crime scenes and what not for my job so I do know a lot of the cops, plus we all work together..

But as an ADA myself, I know how irritating it is to have to deal with people who call up acting like they are going to do me a favor by making me an "offer"... chances are, I would have dismissed the ticket anyway if you had given me a good story. If you want to get out of a ticket, don't be a fucking idiot, because when they go to the ADA, we don't "have to make money for the court" because we aren't employed by the court. We don't have to "win" tickets because no one sees them. If you do shit right, you'll be just fine. Or just ask them if they know "Kim"

Just pay the ticket and don't worry about it any more. Why look over your shoulder when you don't have to?

Especially since the Iowa Death Squads patroling the upper Midwest don't take shit from anyone. The Children of the Corn can be killer.

And Kim's right about acting like you're doing them (an ADA) a favor. Admit what you did, or give them a good story and they'll usually work with you. And remember they are doing you a favor...

I got a ticket on I-80 in Iowa. Got pulled over for 10 over by a trooper. Wrote to them and got no luck. After not paying it they sent a letter saying they contacted SOC in Michigan about it and they were planning to suspend my license. Don't know if they could do it but not worth the chance. Just pay it.

Pay it...you don't want a warrant popping up on any security checks. It'll also show up whenever a cop runs your plate/license. You won't be getting off easy anymore that way.
