PAINT GUYS - Need advice!!!!!!

I'm looking to have my bumpers color matched on my truck. They are currently chrome, but I want them black to match the truck. I have been doing lots of digging on the internet and have found people who have had them painted and they are **claiming"" to have no issues with the paint holding up over the chrome? Is this possible to achieve? Or would it just be a better idea to powder coat them instead? Looking for advice or suggestions either way. Thanks in advance for the help.

Let one of the more experienced paint guys chime in, but in my experience you need to scuff it up really well using coarse sandpaper and then use a self etching primer under your standard primer.

What type of truck? are they rusting? Why not buy a paint to match bumper instead of wasting the time and money and possible short lasting result?

It's a 2014 Silverado. No rust at all. The proper bumper to buy would cost about $600 from what I have found. The reason for wanting to do it is because it looks a million times better when the front is all color matched to the rest of the truck.

to powder coat the bar you would have to completely strip the chrome from the bar so the powder will stick to it. scuffing, etching and priming with quailty products and applying it even will give you a good result until you start getting stone chips then youll start to have a flacking issue in the future.

Your better off selling your bumper and buying the one you want. The chrome will need to be stripped or you will have poor adhesion.
