Paint and body help

I have a 88 hatchback that is a hard color to match and need the cowl bumped from a hood incident and the rear hath to be painted..

The car is a dark mineral gray but do not have the paint code. Anyone know a good painter that can color match and bump the cowl. I live in the downriver area

I would suggest taking it to a shop, getting a perfect panel match without blending will be nearly impossible and not having the paint code doesn't help. A good shop will have a selection of color decks with possible variants, you need a round about starting point and not knowing what color is really on there will make the job harder, just fyi

So the skill level of the painter isn't the issue, it's their color matching capabilities I would look for

Dont Know if you would wanna drive up to brown city but we have a camera that colormatches , usually is real close to perfect if not we can tell before we even mix paint. If you wanna check around you its DuPont and the camera is called Cromavision most places that spray DuPont can get one to use if they dont have it but youll want to find someone that has the new system with "color proofing" The camera only works OK without it

The only problem with that camera is, it only matches shade and hue not particle size so your 45* & 25* angles usually are off if the incorrect aluminum size is in the formula, face match can be "close" but I'm picky

We used to get only close blendable matches before the new computer but now they seem to be great . I just did a 69 charger doors only it was bright red the guy didnt know what color it was but you couldnt tell that it wasnt blended, silvers and greys have been the only ones that have gave us problems now I understand why thanks for the info, we cant always get answers from our reps

Thanks for the reply's. I had it on a camera at painter supply but the color was off so I never had the work done I will try supernotch and see what he says

I would have them bump it and paint it a nice professional matte black, if its just the cowl are it might look cool
