Outrageous shipping cost on e-bay

So I find a door for my 66 chevelle on e-bay. Guy wants 100.00 for it like cool asked how much is shipping he said 150.00 to ship from Dekalb, Il to Holly, MI (285 miles). I am like how are shipping this, he says its has to go freight because of its size. It’s a bare door no windows or anything, I have shipped larger and heavier items then that by UPS. I guess he must not really want to sell it, if I am going to give him 150.00 in shipping plus the cost for a used door I can go to NPD and pay 300.00 for a new one. Think he is just trying to make some extra money.

150 is about right, I just shipped 17Lbs to south alabama and it was 30.00 , shipping rates went up jan 1

That is the going rate.

A door has to be shipped truck freight.

Most people charge more than $150 for a similar shipment.

We would charge $150 for that shipment as well.

I think you need to calm down a little, of course he wants to sell it.

May want to try shipping by Greyhound Bus. Years ago I shipped a '70 chevelle hood to Texas for $60. I wrapped it in cardboard and dropped it off at the Royal Oak bus station. The buyer agreed to pick it up at the bus station nearest them.

I have shipped doors UPS it totally depends on the weight, a bare door would not be over the weight.

I used to ship alot of stuff greyhound, it is real cheap, unfortunately i have found most people who ship dont wont to do it, they say its a inconvience to them. When I was shipping I did not care to save the customer some money.

The likelyhood of a door getting damaged through UPS is way higher than something strapped to a pallet and shipped truck freight.

We simply won't ship body panels UPS. We go as far to shipping fenders truck freight as well.

its not the weight its the dimensional weight that will make the price jump

Packages can be up to 150 lbs (70 kg).
Packages can be up to 165 inches (419 cm) in length and girth combined.

DO NOT SHIP AUTO BODY PARTS GREYHOUND!!!!
Unless you want them beat to HELL!
I drive for a greyhound like bus company I watched the baggage handlers in Detroit drop a car fender and laugh about it
The best way to ship a door is on a pallet and $150 is about right
Think about the fact the guy has to spend about 3 hours of his time putting it on a pallet and driving to the shipping hub Be glad he isn't asking for a handling fee

I wheel and deal a bit in vintage motorcycle parts. It's insane shipping fairings/plastics these days. Cost me $105 to ship a solo section for a ZX7RR that weighed 5lbs. It sucks.

I had 2 1951 Ford F1 fender shipped with Greyhound from southern CA to Southfield. It was about $100 (IIRC). They were not handled with care. I didnt mind too much, they arent getting paint. If I were restoring a car and needed it to come as straight as possible I would go UPS and insure it. Metal work costs more than shipping/insurance.

I recently shipped two super light rear drag wheels (I think each entire box, packaging and all, was 18#) to CA from Holly, MI. It was over $100! I was bummed, I had charged the guy $60 for shipping.

yeah I used to be able to ship wheels and tires pretty reasonably thru fedex, seems like the prices have gone up

Of course, they are still using 2014 fuel prices as the reason for the price increases... will they lower them because fuel is cheap again? Of course not. People still need to ship stuff.

I have received large body parts via greyhound and never had an issue.

I paid like $20 or something a few years ago to have a rear bumper cover shipped up from Georgia.

Only bad part was I had to go to Detroit to pick it up. Other than that, totally worth it and I would use it again.
