Cant say that thats what happen to your motor, but everybody running flat tappet cams should be aware that the oils they have run for years are now formulated differently and are causing cam and other failures. Rotella T still contains these additives

Heard this too on a few other board. It's worth looking into.
 
Umm, you shouldn't be running your engine with adjustable "checking" pushrods. They look homemade with acorn nuts, and they're more than likely not heat treated and don't have the correct radius on the end to match up with the pushrod pocket in the rocker arm, which appears to have caused the wear pattern that you have.

I've never seen an adjustable pushrod with an oiling hole either but can't tell in those pics if they have one...but perhaps those are adjustables that are made to be run? Not saying I'd do it but just a thought...

Hope you get her back running man...I'm sure it's just a minor setback.
 
I would certainly get a set of chromemoly 5/16 pushrods in the correct length, the next go around. Adjustable pushrods are nothing but trouble.

Now I know. Never had anyone tell me differently until now. Figured when the machine shop did the heads and assembly that they would know what to do. Not saying the pushrods are to blame here but just explaining my reasoning behind the adj. pushrods. This time around...non adjustable.
