So today I went over to a buddie's house and his dad has a sucessful towing business and several cars. So my friend proceeds to show me all the cars. We went out to the back garage (the front grarage had 8 cars in it), where his brown Mercury, equlivalent of the Ford Maverick. It has a 600hp SBf motor in it with a bunch of other stuff hes doing to it and so fourth. Finally his dad comes over and we started talking.
Eventually he tells me how he was the first guy to ever have nitrous on the street. Now in the back of my head I'm thinking B.S. So he tells me how he bought the kit off a drag racer during the early 70's (he told me his name but I cant remember). He installed it in his Mercury and used to street race exclusivley on Telegraph back in the early-mid 70's in this car. Then he went over to a box with the entire set up. The plate was 3 inches or so tall, had two inlets in it that crossed over in the middle, and looked much like a modern nutrous kit. There were two braided lines running to two very small solenoids of the same size. Once had a fitting for steel line and another had a nipple fitting for rubber fuel line. Then he showed me the bottle he used, and it looked like an old welding gas bottle or something to that effect and was pretty large. Needless to say I was very suprised and glad. That's why I like talking to old hot rodders! I even gave him a few pointers on crankcase evacuation and where to snag a few parts.
