I TOOK OFF TO THE STORE AND I HAD THE AC ON EVERYTHING WAS FINE, THEN WHEN I LEFT THE STORE I TURNED ON MY TRUCK AND THIS WIERD SMELL WAS COMIN OUT OF MY VENTS WHEN THE AC WAS ON. I KNOW THE AC HAS A FUNNY SMELL TOO IT SOMETIMES WHEN YOU FIRST TURN IT ON, BUT THIS ODOR SMELLS. I WAS LIKE WTF IS THAT SMELL I THOUGHT I STEPPED ON SOME GARBAGE OR SOMETHING, BUT NO..... ANY IDEAS ON WHAT THE HELL IT CAN BE OR HOW TO GET RID OF THE SMELL WHEN I TURN ON THE AC?????????????????? :headscrat

does it still work?
moldy evap. you can buy a product the you spray in the cowl that kills the smell

Yea it still works fine and after a while you dont smell it unless you put your face by the vent.... Can i get this spray at autozone?????????

Do you have to charge the system frequently ? If so what you could be smelling is a leaky evaporator. Does the smell have a oilly quality about it. If not its most likely mold from a clogged evaporator core drain.

No i have not have to charge it, actually it stopped now finaly it was only for a day. Thanks for all the tipps motown, but no smelly ac anymore

Run the AC with the heater door blend set at half cold and half hot. Run it with the windows down. That will dry out and kill off any fungus or mold living in there and should help keep the smell from comming back.

BG car care products makes a product called frigy fresh. Its a moldicide and its very effective at keeping mold gone and killing it.

Also make sure to clean out the drip line from the AC condersor. If you get under the truck it should be up against the firewall on the passnger side. 1/2 diameter rubber hose stick straight down near the AC lines.

I figured I would ask about how its holding a charge. Those trucks are getting old enough to where corrosion of the core should start becoming problemitic and in poorly maintianed system.

Being as you aren't rechagring it frequently I doubt its seepage and Refrigerant oil stinking up the cabin.
