Ohio title

I bought a vehicle in Ohio. Do I need it notarized to transfer it to my name? What all needs to be filled out. These new titles from Ohio are confusing.

not needed if bringing to Mich., if it doesn't have a spot for purchase price, won't hurt to get a Bill of sale that shows it, or you may need to pay taxes on KBB pricing

I know Texas titles don't have the spot for the price, my truck came from there

In Michigan it doesn't matter, tax is based on what you
paid or book value, whichever is higher.

Thanks Guys

That is unfortunate. The car is not all that nice but still books fairly high.

I have never paid anymore of taxes other then what was written on the title. I was told by a worker at the SOS that the sale price that was written down seems awful cheap and Lansing may investigate it.

not exactly, I've only ever paid taxes on the actually sale price on the title, if no amount is given, or there are questions, they can go with the KBB price

I've bought many a car for $100 actual price, never questioned

I've heard once from someone I bought a car off that they got a call about the price

Friend from college bought a truck from his uncle (not included in the the tax-free family sale) for literally $1 and the SOS (in the UP) gave him shit for it and made him pay tax on I think $500. I was given a boat for free and they made me pay tax on I think $100, but don't ever take a free boat from someone. I should have been paid to take it. lol

Ya it's up to the clown behind the counter at SOS
Are they having a good day? or a bad day?

Then if they're having a good day, and let you slide with a low purchase price, if the difference is too far apart from NADA book valve, the tax evasion dept of Michigan will contact you via mail and force you to pay more taxes ... (ask me how I know, lol)

They can and will send a bill if you pay taxes on what they seem is too low for the car. It's happened to me.

I have had to pay more tax on several different vehicles.

Try it enough times, and you won't be able to say that.

Yes, I also once completed a title transfer and plated the
truck only to get a letter from Lansing weeks later informing
me of the additional tax due!
