No snow post?

Those are the reasons I have a large portable with a direct back-feed to my fuse panel.
been using this set up for 23 years.

Same, when I built the house, I wired a 50 amp receptacle where I'd want the generator placed. Wired in a subpanel for the generator-driven circuits, and threw in an interlock from the main panel to the subpanel to pass inspection.

I have my fridges/freezer, sump pump, well, select indoor lighting and outlets, bedroom lighting (for fans, if needed in summer), exerior lighting, well, etc. on it.

I have a geothermal for HVAC and there isn't a shot in hell anything but a massive generator will power it.

I have the "portable" 10kw sitting there, plumbed into my 120 gallon propane tank and plugged into the house. To fire it up (if it wasn't a paperweight right now), just turn the gas valve on, turn the generator on, push the start button, go into basement and flip the 2 breakers (kill the main panel, turn on the generator backfeed circuit).

I have a lean-to off the back of the garage to keep the generator out of the elements, but allow for proper ventilation.

Nice to see 99.22% restored power as of now.

They just updated my restore to possibly Wednesday, March 1st.

Woah, you're STILL out? Sorry man, that blows!!

Just talked to a really cool DTE guy just down the road from me, they are still finding
damage & problems! DTE says "today", he said most likely another day or two.
