I'm curious if a tool is needed to re-learn TPMS.
I'm thinking about getting a second set of wheels and tires for my wife's Focus.
That would mean two sets of TPMS though, is there a way to relearn each set to the vehicle, or is a tool required?

Or, am I totally wrong here and there is another option?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

There are some really inexpensive tools to relearn TPMS (I ma not sure how well the cheap ones work. If you are considering swapping tires/sensors frequently, it'll pay for itself in a short time.

On most of the GM cars and trucks I have tried, the car will relearn by just letting air out of the tires in order once you enter into the re-learn mode. I can't believe that this is a GM specific thing.

Some cars have the seatbelt door lock horn dance that set it into learn mode and some manufacturers like Mercedes needs the whole serial number to program with a scanner. I'll look up the TPMS process on the Ford tech site

Sounds like the magnet is for early years.
What I see now is just some key on/off brake cyclings sequence.

I'll see what happens, I am not sure the wheels I am looking at are even Focus wheels, I think the guy is mistaken and they're Fusion wheels.
