New project Malibu

I just picked up a new project, 1979 Malibu. 26k original miles. I am thinking on keeping the interior and exterior stock. Maybe some weld wheels and light tint. It has a very mild 350 in it for now, once winter hits the engine and trans comes out and the fun will begin. I want to just drive it the rest of the season. Now its time to get rid of my Blazer so I can free up some funds. What do you guys think on leaving the interior and exterior alone?

imo loose the vinyl top, side moldings, different wheels/tires, paint it anything but sh!t brown and it would be awesome! maybe do up the interior too, at least black carpet to minimize all the brown.

G-bodys rule. I agree with leaving interior and exterior alone.

I think this car should get an LS engine or a BBC.

Or maybe even a modified Turbo Buick combo.

It will be cool that way, but it would be cheaper and better to go with an LS engine unless you're shooting for extreme (race car) power levels.

I'm looking to make something in the 500-600 RWHP range, so nothing to radical. I was thinking LS was more costly and I know a gen1 sbc will bolt right in. If I was to go LS, what type of power will a stock lower end hold up to?

6.0 LQ4 or 9 with a 76mm - arp hardware, will handle gobs of power - probably more than you want

EDIT: I vote to keep ext/int as is!!

Stock lower end will go to stupid power. And you can use a stock intake and even computer. IMO it's the way to go. I'm doing a very similar project right now, it's a g-body also, with a stock 2001 junkyard LS1 and an 80mm turbo. Using the stock PCM. I expect to make the kind of power you are looking for with this and I have like $1100 into the engine and computer together  Plus, it won't leak and it will get good mileage.

Leave it alone!

And damnit, where do you guys find these cars? I can never find old cars in this nice of shape.

Thats what I like to hear!!!

I want this car! Only thing i would change is putting black interior, i hate shit brown, and a center consol with buckets. Otherwise leave it. And LS with turbo FTW>

Also lose the side moldings, and tail pipes. But im with you, cruise it with tint for the rest of the year.
