New Project, 1972 Monte carlo

I haven't posted here much but figured I would share the progress on a 1972 Monte Carlo me and my dad picked up a few weeks ago. My dad actually owned this car for a very short time back in 1998 while his buddy who really wanted the car could save up the money for it. Once his buddy got the money the car was all his. He had it the entire time up until recently when he decided it was time to let it go! My dad was contemplating on building up a 3800 Fiero but decided on the Monte Carlo hands down!

*This thread is a work in progress I am going to be adding a lot so stay tuned!

The car is a 1972 Monte Carlo. Originial 402 big block and AC so it had some decent options. The originial motor was rebuilt with a mild cam, weind stealth intake and a 750 edelbrock carb.

The previous owner saved up a but load of parts for a new build he was planning on but never got around to it. Well it wasn't long before we bought up the rest of the parts needed and got our asses to work!

Here's some pics for now. I plan to add a lot more, and some info on what was done to the car already, what we did and a little more history...

Well that's all I'm gonna post up for now. BIG THANKS GOES OUT TO 86iroc305 on this project!

Thanks man, we started it up last night at like midnight! It sounded great! Besides the sound of the rockers hitting the cheap ass autozone valve covers my dad picked up...but we fixed that lol. Were gonna pull it out later and finish the break in on the cam and get the timing buttoned up and take it for a ride.

Yeah I took some vids of some attempted start ups lol with flames shooting out the carb and everything while we were messing with the timing, and some videos of it actually running. It was midnight though and we had to shut it off otherwise the cops would have probally showed up!

Looks great! Have fun, and enjoy the time you get to spend with your Dad working on it, that's gonna be the best part!

Keep us updated.

Nice project! Love the Monte's! My dad had a 71 RPO-Z20 SS Monte Carlo when I was younger I remember how tall the dash board was and only being able to barely see out the front window! That car looks very solid. Is it yours or your pops car?

Those SS montes were extremely rare! Thanks man, the 72 is my dads car and project! I am just helping as we go along.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! It defiently so far is turning out to be a fun project! After the new cam the car ran really good but it wasn't long before it hit the garage for the winter. After driving it for the weekend after we bought it was pretty clear the suspension was in need of some major attention. And by major I mean everything was factory stock except for the shocks, and you could feel it driving the car!

So instead of rebuilding everything stock I convinced my dad into a full BMR suspension package with 1" lowering springs. After showing him the site and parts, and a 71 Chevelle with the same kit pulling .92 Gs on the skidpad he was hooked! Kit came in a few weeks ago heres some pics...

As for the car, were pulling the motor next weekend. We didn't plan to at all but are gonna do it anyways to get the entire engine bay detailed and repainted. Trans is getting freshened up and were gonna repaint the motor. Going to put all new front brakes on it, OEM for now....and rear disks are a must. Don't anyone tell him but I'm gonna buy him a set of 18s for christmas...lol Oh yeah entire new steering too. Heres a few pics of the car now. I'll have to get more later, most of them came out like shit that I just snapped!
