In a stunning development, Gov. Rick Snyder has signed into law bills that will allow Michigan residents to carry Tasers — if they already have a concealed-carry pistol license and complete specialized training in use of the non-lethal devices.

The new law, which the Legislature gave immediate effect, prohibits licensed carriers from using Tasers “except under circumstances that would justify his or her use of force.” The law covers any device that uses “electro-muscular disruption technology” and basically puts permit holders under the same restrictions as people carrying concealed firearms, including a requirement that the presence of the device be disclosed to a police officer. Tasers also could not be brought into the “no carry zones” now spelled out in gun laws and carrying one while under the influence of alcohol would be illegal.

Taser is the brand name of devices made by Taser International that use compressed gas to fire darts connected to wires that deliver an electrical charge sufficient to incapacitate a person.

Tasers are legal in 43 other states. A legislative analysis of the bills Snyder signed says “it stands to reason that if individuals who meet CPL (concealed pistol license) licensing standards are trusted with carrying a firearm for personal safety, the law should not ban them from carrying an EMD for the same purpose.”

NICE!!! I've been following this for awhile, glad it passed. Next big obstacle is still the "no carry zones". You can't carry concealed here but you can open carry because you have your CPL.. yeap.. that makes sense lol.

I re-read it a few times and I thought it was meaning you can't carry the tazer in the same areas as you can't a gun...........

Has anyone seen anything wrt "taser classes"? Also, I does this make our CPL a concealed weapon license now?
